Hello All..... I just purchased my first 1911 e-series 45 C. and have been told by a friend to replace the recoil spring every 1000 rounds fired. I have a revolver (686P) a lot less complicated than a semi-automatic. I love the 1911, shot it last week and found it to be very accurate and a nice gun to fire. Is this a general rule for 1911's? It seems to me to be quite often, again its my first pistol so I'm not very well versed on it. Comments would be appreciated. Thanks. P.B.

Welcome to the forum Paul. I got my first E four years ago and she's got 3k down wind with out replacing the recoil spring. Probably be a good ideal, what E did you get? Gonna need some pics or it never happened.

Thanks t-bird !! I have pictures on my computer but would have no idea of how to include a photo in this reply. Its the S&W product # 108482 all stainless. I was very concerned when I went to the range and the recoil it might have. But what a surprise. I have a CZ75 compact 9mm that might seem to have as much kick as the 1911. I also have a 686P .357 magnum that really rattles my teeth, and that was the first gun I purchased back in January of this year. I love shooting it. It was on my bucket list to own hand guns most of my life and finally it happened. I started out with the .357 for I figured HEY I'm 68 y/o and I don't have much time to start with something like a .22. "Baptism of Fire". LOL!

I always heard that the rule of thumb on replacing recoil springs is closer to 5000 rounds, I'd say doing it at 1K is overly cautious. I don;t think I've ever even heard anyone else recommending it that frequently.

Thats the exact model I have been thinkin about getting. Its a toss up between the E series , tbe pro and the performance. I wonder what the extra$600 brings to the table
