My newest Snubbie

Despite all the insanity of ammo shortages and ammo price gouging there are guns out there to be bought. Most people go for the amazing plastic/steel genre leaving older guns to me!

I mulled over a Model 37 or a Model 49; although not cheap, at $599 each it still wasn't as bad as ammo prices! On guy walked out carry a 500 round box of WWB White Box 9MM ammo; almost $650 out the door! Ouch. That's why I'm limiting range visits!

So final answer? I bought the Model 49. I didn't like the white resin S&W medallioned stocks so I put a pair of older checkered wood factory stocks I have. You choose but I like the wood better!

Here it is; tight lockup, a slight turn line; dry as my sense of humor! I need to do a detailed cleaning; it has a few warts - but as they say: "It's mine now!"

Very nice 49. I still regret passing up a beautiful nickel 49 about 6 months ago. It was at a Reno LGS and they were asking $475. Damn it!

VERY nice 49. The M49 is my favorite CF snubby. My very first was a M442 and just 1 cyl of wadcutters with the RA in my hands dictated an all steel snub over a lightweight. Plus, I like the SA option for grouping with different ammo and being snag free. I practice DAO.

One thing that has worked well, for me, was putting the smooth 'banana' grips on it and putting the factory magna grips aside. I have the checkered banana grips also, but, they weren't as comfortable as the smooth.

i have a model 38 bodyguard i purchased new in 1971. I shoot it a little and carry it a lot. Adding a T-Grip really helps control the recoil. It's a greaaaat ankle gun.

reccpd - I guess if I read your screen name right you are a Brother of the Thin Blue Line. I can understand an ankle carry then; but in the Federal Agency I was with when I retired we weren't even allowed to carry a back-up gun. Dumb and dumber rolled into one. This was an agency that merged with another 17 years ago; back then if you could qualify with it you could use it as a back-up; they even supplied the ammo. When I started there you could bring a gun to range day and after the qual shooting was done you could shoot the qual course with the gun of your choice - and it would be entered in you Firearms Record as proficient to carry off-duty. Who knows how many back-up guns were carried? I don't!
