My Package and the USPS

Getting closer! Next stop South Carolina.

My sister lives in Norfolk, VA. I live in Northern VA.

Her Christmas card to me was POSTMARKED in Pittsburg, PA.

I ordered a new smoker from Cabela's on November 28th, supposedly from a store just about 70 miles south of here (free shipping) in Bowling Green, KY. They said I'd have it in 3 days.

On the 6th of December I saw that it was up in Ohio, where it sat for three days. I called Cabela's and they said it must have been stolen and they were sending another one.

Tracking showed the second one going to Ohio, to Nebraska, to California and back to Ohio, where it eventually arrived here on December the 9th. Two days later the original smoker arrived as well.

Then they sent a truck back to pick it up from my house to return it. Who knows what all of that "free shipping" cost the company when it was all said & done!

Stupidity like that ends up costing the consumer in the end, because they aren't making enough profit, they raise prices on merchandise.

Stupid, Stupid, Stupid.........

Sounds like someone doesn't know their geography, and I wonder about the management.
At my longtime PO several new faces, and it is the busiest time of the year.
I bought an M639 slide from a forum member, he sent me a message showing it had arrived, tracking number, no yellow card in my P.O. Box, printed the message, to the P.O., it was there along with several other items I had ordered.

My USPS packaged go exactly where they are sent to, in the shortest possible routes. They always come a day early.

The only problem I ever had was with a suitcase that I put on a United Airlines flight from Chicago to Buffalo. It went to Honolulu.

I had to work while my bag had a vacation.

My USPS delivery person waves to me every day, and says Hi if she delivers a package. THE USPS is simply the best run business in the world, and their prices beat the competition.

(Now flag on. Apparently Neuman only works in select post offices.)

I got a message from Fedex recently that a package had been delivered. Looked out the front door, no package....looked at the picture they sent me, not my front door....so I drive around my neighborhood looking for the front door in the picture. Found it on the other side of the neighborhood. I ring the bell to let the folks know that I am not a porch pirate, just here to get my stuff....the Fedex guy who delivers our neighborhood is terrible.

A Christmas card mailed on December 21 arrived today.
Just a few days late.....
Not that I care. From my stepdaughter......

I have several cards that have NOT come yet, and a few from last year as well.

I just don't know. Did the people die? Or, are they mad at me?

This occurred a few years ago.

This is the actual tacking history of a package which was initially sent to a Denver, CO address. When I finally got the package back, it was marked “undeliverable address”. The address WAS correct. I took the package with its tracking history to the PO and they reshipped it at no cost to me. Address remained the same and this time it arrived in 5 days.

Back in the last century, I ordered a goose neck trailer hitch from Valley Hitches. When the plate got shipped-UPS- I started wondering where it was. After some time (month+ maybe), I called Valley and they shipped another free of charge and I got it in 3 days. About 3 months later I got home and there was a large, damaged box by the garage. Yep, it was the first hitch plate-minus a lot of the hardware that leaked out of the box. Valley told me to keep it, they'd collected insurance on it.

The USPS have never been worse than it is at this time! I can not even begin to post some of the stories here because I doubt some of them are even believable!!!! I have trouble believing them!!

That said, I no longer send anything except a letter on occasion via the post office. Most bills are either paid on line or auto pay. I use UPS or Fedex for all my packages. While they are certainly not perfect either, they are heads and tails above the USPS. If something gets lost or damaged, you have a fair chance of getting paid, but the USPS - FORGETABOUTIT!

In case some do not realize this:

When a tracking program says item shipped or item delivered that does not mean it actually is!!! As soon as the label is printed, many times it is marked shipped, even if said package has not actually been taken to the drop off. Same thing with "delivered". All that means is that is was scanned as leaving the shippers facility and has been placed on the truck (supposedly). The item can still be on the truck, delivered to the wrong house, etc. So don't believe or take those two terms too seriously!

I used to feel that way but recently it seems as though my house has a forcefield around it that repels packages. From the tracking app I've watched packages arrive at my local PO - go 50 miles east - come back to my PO - go 200 miles west. For one package I finally stopped the madness by filling out a missing package report online and then it was delivered 12 hrs later by hand on a Sunday.
That was in Nov.. I think the Christmas packages arrived in time but I don't know how many of them were USPS vs Amazon.
it seems like my problems were with the local PO but time will tell.
