Greetings Everyone,

Just returned from my 2nd Mission trip. Once again, we worked in the hills of northeast Tennessee, in the town of Morristown.

The home we were assign required a great deal of work. Our group was assign to repair\replace the roof and to rehab the bathroom. I felt lucky to get the bathroom detail. Working on the roof with an 8/12 pitch just does not sound appealing.

Below was the condition of the bathroom when we first arrived.

It is hard to tell from the photo, but the potty is listing 30 degrees towards the tub. The floor is very spongy when walking on it. I am guessing from water damage to the framing. Do not know why the vanity is separating or the job of the 2x behind the toilet tank.

Below is after the fixtures (the tub was cast iron), flooring and framing was removed. That is a 6 foot ladder we used to get into the crawl space. At least there was plenty of height for me to work on the plumbing.

Here is the new framing, 12 inch on center. My architect wife was glad to see that, but getting through the joist with my 36 inch waist was a challenge.

The plumbing rough-in. Notice my Vise-grips on the shower cold water side holding the CPVC until the pipe clamps are installed.

The homeowner's family was very appreciative of all our labor and effort. They continually ask what they could do to assist. On Wednesday evening, the homeowner was in tears after seeing the progress. At that point, only the shower and Sheetrock was installed. The final coat of mud, vinly flooring, vanity and potty would not be installed until the next day.

On Thursday, we had a couple setbacks. The 1 1/2 inch galvanize pipe for the vanity drain broke when I was trying to remove the slip nut. This turned out to be a blessing. As the photo show, the ell was so blocked that very little water would drain.

The other setback was the new toilet leaked through the flush value and between the tank and bowl. Turn out the new toilet was not new, but a return. Problem solved when a new potty arrived. Installation of the new potty was successfully completed in 30 minutes.

After 4 days demoing the old bathroom, installing new framing, new shower stall, new fixtures, new Sheetrock, and new floor, below is the homeowner's new bathroom.

Thanks for listening.
Later,
glen
