I bought this new back in 2000 as a 1999 leftover. I was at the bike dealership giving a friend a ride to pick up his new Triumph Thunderbird and this KLR 650 was over in a corner. I asked about it and they gave me a price I could not refuse...just under $4k.
It has a 6 gallon factory fuel tank and gets about 60mpg so a range of about 350 miles. 35HP and lots of torque.Supertrapp muffler and custom carb tuning. Will do about 80 down hill. I geared it down to better suit off my road needs. Progressive suspension, skid pan, steel serrated foot pegs..Corbin leather saddle..knobby DOT tires. It's street legal. I even have a rifle scabbard for it..somewhere.
I hadn't driven it for about 6 years and I keep it in heated storage area (my basement) but I'm cleaning out that area, so time to rejuvinate the old Killer!
I had to dump the fluid in the tank out, buy a new battery and give it a good overall cleaning. Damn mice like to climb and poop on everything! I had drained the carb before putting it away so no issues with goop in there.
Still looks and runs as well as it did 23 years ago. Guess it's a keeper.
