My uncle was there eighty years ago.

As a lifetime "student" of WW2, I thank the OP for adding a bit of new and interesting information about this significant piece of history. I love to hear about the personal experiences of the "ordinary" guys who participated in "extraordinary" events ....Thanks again !

The Raiders trained here in the Fort Walton Beach area at what was then Eglin Field. We had a flyover yesterday of a B25, and many other old and modern aircraft, in memory of them. The 77 year old daughter of the last survivor Lt.Cole Richard Cole was aboard. It was great to see and they finished with a Missing Man Formation.
There was celebration of the Final Goblet earlier in the day. The Raiders had done a toast ceremony of cognac when they gathered. Cole was the last so his goblet was turned over signifying the end in a public gathering. They were very important locally as they should have been everywhere in the US. One, Ed Horton, even settled here.
God bless them all.
