Hey guys, I have a 629-4, it’s duel Mag-Na- Ported or “ quad ported ? It’s a Full lug, 3”, unfluted brushed SS gun, RB, regular S&W stamp on the left side NOT the pc logo, unfortunately there is no box, the prefix is CCL, when I look in the book it says the avenger was unfluted but all of the ones I have seen are fluted with a tapered barrel, the catalog only shows a couple product codes that match either 170048 or 170058, it’s a Lew Horton exclusive from the 1700.. I can’t find anything on this gun except a few google images.. product codes are only leading down avenger rabbit hole . I have been told perhaps it was an overrun, hoping to find someone who has one in the original box with the same prefix and can give me the exact product code, year and how many were made? Seems to be very rare

Try and search past sales on GB. I have definitely seen the quad ported 629s on there. I just don’t remember barrel lengths. Might give more info on one.

A fellow enabler alerted me to this post via PM this morning and asked for my thoughts.

While I am certainly no expert, I am a huge fan of the big bore snubs.

My guess is this is Product Code 103600, marketed as the Lew Horton Classic Carry. These were produced from late 1996 until early 1997. According to the factory letters from Lew Horton regarding the two in my collection, there were 538 units produced. Of those 127 were shipped with Altamont rosewood grips and the other 411 shipped with Hogue synthetic grips.

All of the examples I have seen were either CBL or CCL S/N prefix. I have not seen any documented over run examples.

However, these were not ported. I would guess this was done after the fact. I believe you can still request a letter from Lew Horton for a fee. Hope that helps.

Best regards, Bob.

it is factory because I have been able to find a few images but no good details, it's either a 170058 or a 170048, I know someone on here has both NIB just waiting patiently. The Classic Carry is a -5

Both of the product codes listed above are for Performance Center models. You stated in your original post the revolver had the S&W logo not the PC logo. Can you provide any photos?

Why not call the factory (800-331-0852), hit the selection to get to S&W Customer Service.... If you give them your serial number they will give you the product code for your revolver.... Takes the guess work out of it... :)

now we are getting somewhere! thank you guys this forum is awesome, I will call smith tomorrow and thank you bratliff do you own both of those guns in the box with those codes?

sad news, you guys were right and I was wrong..not factory... its a Lew Horton Classic Carry and the magnaports are aftermarket, product code 103658. Thank you everyone for your help! I Appreciate your time very much and this forum ROCKS

That makes sense, the CCL S/N prefix and 103658 product code would be later. Perhaps a second run of the Classic Carry, since the SCSW shows 1999 production year. I'll have to keep an eye out for that one.

As these become older and somewhat more collectible you have to do your research. You will often find items that are pieced together for profit. I exclusively only add items to my collection that I can document as original.

Best regards, Bob.
