First off, any cylinder may require some fitting to the revolver. They are not necessarily "drop in". If you have the whole cylinder assembly, that is - the cylinder, ejector star, centerpin, associated springs, and ejector rod it makes it a lot easier. Cylinder from another 29-2 or 29-1 is the closest. Cylinder from 29 or pre-29 is going to require an ejector rod also, because they have a right hand thread and the rod form a 29-2 is left hand thread so you can't swap them.

Going the other way, the cylinders form 29-3,4,5,6 will fit but those are not recessed for the case heads and are shorter. Unless you replace the lug on the frame that hold the cylinder in place when it is open, you will have a sloppy fit when the cylinder is open and it will slide back and forth a slight amount.

Bottom line answer is yes, but likely with work.
