This is not something that is best done by someone else! To do it properly not only would the maker of the filler piece need the Grips, but he should have the gun there as well. To properly match the grips as best as possible, the color and grain is needed. The gun is needed because as much as some people think every Revolver of the same Frame and model number is identical, they aren't. Yea, they are close but the filler piece should be fitted in place when the grips are on the gun.

I suggest that if you are not capable or willing to do this yourself, you can find a friend who is good at woodworking to do it. Although it might be difficult to find a matching species of wood, matching can be done by using stains of different colors and types (can also be mixed to match). Sometimes Gel Stains can be used with excellent results. Gel Stains get their "grain" added by your and a paint brush! A top coat of Urethane protects it from wearing off.

I did this to make a pair of J-frame square butt magnas fit my 32 HE.
If we were close enough to get together I'd be happy to help you, but as chief38 said to do it properly will require having the gun and grips in hand.

I'm seriously NOT being sarcastic or rude but since you already know what it is that you need and you have the gun and grips, why dont you at least try to make what it is you're needing? It's a very rewarding feeling to do even little, insignificant things to your own guns. And, since this is not something inside the gun that will have any detrimental effect on the function of said gun if it doesnt work out the first time I bet it will the second try. As has been said already, this is something best done with the gun and grips in hand. As an example, I just recently replaced the DA sear in my 29, I'm no revolversmith either but I was tired of only firing it in SA. It is now as smooth as silk.

Come on, I bet you can do it, and you'll probably be surprised by how well you do.

I think it would be appreciated if you could let us know the result. I make my own and it's a bit of a PITA filling and fitting. That an insert could be readily made and a bit of final finish left for the buyer to do would be great.

FWIW, I have the insert match the grip backstrap rather than the wood - light grey for stainless and black for blued.
