Wish I could. I'll just dream of one.

I can remember as a little boy going with my parents to Mackenzie's Restaurant (but usually called "Ruth and Harry's) in Punxsutawney,PA for their cream filled doughnuts. There was a bakery case at the cash register and we went in late on Saturday hoping to get the discounted doughnuts. The diner in the movie "Groundhog Day" greatly resembles Mackenzie's.

Ohhhh.....I wondered what was going on at Krispy Kreme this morning. :)

An Amish market up the road from where I live, another near an indoor range I go to. Yum !!!

Years back the contractor I worked for built a training facility for Krispy Kreme Donuts and I had the pleasure of doing the quick-cool refrigeration tunnel for the fresh made donuts. Many of the donuts ended up in a garbage bin when they weren't practicing their packaging techniques. I was the most popular neighbor on my street! That had to be one of the best jobs I was ever on. Right up there with working on the A/C at Point Park University's dance class room.

Last week I was talking to a sheriff's deputy who came by our property while looking for a missing person. I mentioned that there have been black bears sighted in the area and that he should be aware. Then I mentioned that the DNR will sometimes put out large traps to capture problem bears and bait the traps with donuts. With a straight face the deputy said "I bet they inadvertently catch a few cops that way".

Firemen are the biggest perps of the cop trap problem.

Took a school tour of a local Krispy Kreme factory when I was eight, the sight of the little raw dough rings shooting down to the conveyor was unforgettable esp. when Rusty brings up boneless pork rectums.

When we first moved to Houston when I was 11 we used to go "canning" on Sunday's to pick up aluminum cans for extra money. Take them home and squash them with a 3 foot long 4x4 so we could fit more in the bags. We would start our morning at the Shipleys on Bissonnet near Fondren. At that time they had windows all along the side and you could watch the whole procedure. Endlessly fascinating for a kid, then we got to eat fresh donuts. Once we were done picking up cans we would stop and get a loaf of bread from the store next to the BBQ joint and Dad would buy a pound of fatty sliced brisket . Lunch brisket between fresh bread. I can still taste both the donuts and the sandwiches.
