"Navy Federal" Scam

I received an email telling me that my Navy Federal account has been locked. It included a link where I could reactivate the account.

Only problem being, I don't have a "Navy Federal" account.

I know that there is a Navy Federal Credit Union, and in case some members here have accounts I wanted to mention this.

I did what everyone else should do. Delete the email.

I've recieved simlar e-mails for bank accounts, credit cards and such. They look for people gulible enough to click the link and enter their accout/card number.
One of the more popular ones for my in box mentions Wells Fargo. I've never done business with them.

The quality of the scam emails varies. Some of them are actually very believable if you don't pay close attention.

I belong to Navy/Army FCU--but nothing bad has happened there yet. This is a local bunch and not associated with the above.Thanks for the warning though.

I've gotten them from Bank of America too.

Two years ago, there was a slick one going on with Bank America. If you tried to access your account on-line, a popup came on screen stating that for security reasons, you had to answer a number of personal questions. It all looked legitimate and under the B of A banner and you couldn't access your account without completing all the answers. I went round and round with BofA over this, they kept saying it was legit. After days of trying to get this bug removed, I finally gave up and answered the questions. Bingo I got into my account. Two days later, I get a call from Sharebuilder saying my personal info was for sale on the internet. Had to contact the Credit Bureaus, cancel credit cards, change all passwords in banking and investment accounts and monitor all financial activity for months. What a hassle.
