Does it strike anyone else odd that the Navy named a 419-foot combat ship after Gabrielle Giffords?
Not to take anything away from Gabrielle, but she never served in the military, and as far as I know, she's never done anything heroic or special. She was a congresswomen, and she was a victim of a madman's violence. And she's now a major gun control advocate. To me, that resume doesn't come close to making the grade for deserving to have a Navy ship named after her. We have so many *real* heroes, especially military heroes, I just think it's odd to name a combat ship after a civilian victim of a madman. And I'm not sure what message this is intended to send to those who will serve aboard her. What am I missing?
