Through my years of antique hunting & junk picking, I seem to have started a small collection of green depression glass, bottles, shot glasses, etc. My area is famous for glassmaking, and it's not uncommon to find some cool pieces at local shops and yard sales... brands such as Crescent, Fostoria, Erskine, Homer Laughlin, Fiesta Ware, Hazel Atlas, Federal and more.

As I was looking through the second hand store over the weekend, I spotted a stack of 4 green ash trays, each with a single cigarette slot, with an Erskine sticker on one, and no chips or nicks. I was puzzled at first, until I saw the images on the bottoms - spade, club, heart, diamond. I suppose 4 poker players could smoke at once, and have their own ash tray. haha, cough, cough. They're different from any I've seen, and I thought they were great, and green too.

I couldn't resist grabbing a few of my vintage poker chips, and snapping a few pics, along with some Smith & Wessons of course. Hope ya'all enjoy. If you like depression glass, old bottles, etc., this could be a good thread to post some pics... I may have a few more too of my bottles and green pieces.

They look great. Put them under a "black light" and see if they are "vaseline glass". Great find.

Medicine Measure?
That's what I was told.
About 1-1/2 Tsp on big end, about 1/2 Tsp on small.
Numerous tiny bubbles in glass.
Wrinkles on surface.

Thanks folks.

Jeep, that is the "Standing Liberty" quarter, also known as the "Flying Eagle" quarter, made from 1916 to 1930. In 1917, a slight change was made to add more clothing to the Liberty figure, due to public criticism that she was displaying a scandalous amount of flesh. I kid you not.

Lee that's a cool little piece. Some folks may try to use it for liquor.

Jeep, no they don't glow under the black light like some of my old green depression glass. I think they're a little too new. Maybe around 1940s or 50s.

Very close, Lee, but not quite. That is a Dappen Dish and it is used in dental offices to dispense small amounts of materials; often times cotton pellets soaked in oil of cloves (the classic "dental office smell"!) or in times past when silver amalgam was individually mixed, the mercury and amalgam was triturated and placed in the dappen dish before being placed in the cavity that had been prepared in the tooth.

Thanks, Bob. Never heard the term, so I Googled it.
Says they have 10 sides.
Have you ever seen a 6 sided one?

Lee, I've seen both. I don't know any significance in the difference.

They are also used to hold the monomer when mixing acrylic with a tiny camel's hair brush for some restorations (i.e. like repairing a broken mother of pearl grip on a Smith).

Their main characteristic is that they must be stable, smooth and easily cleaned.

Interesting. My first thought was that they may be "salt cellars."

I thought salt cellar at first too, but not on both ends. Interesting item.

Okay, I guess if I didn't do it, someone else probably would have. I forget what element in the old green glass makes it respond to a black light, but the poker ash trays are a little to new to have it. I'm surprised my ancient beater Nikon focused in on it.

Josh P .... ahh, I remembered, Uranium makes it glow;)
