I bought a used 586 from the LGS. I got the chance to fire it yesterday and am in love with this wheel-gun. I am so happy I bought this used as opposed to buying a Taurus 608 new for the same price. The 586 has such a nice SA/DA trigger pull. Nothing in the store, including other newer S&W revolvers matched this used gun. The dealer told me somebody did a trigger job on it, and I believe it.

Anyways, I fired a few 38 special and 357 magnum rounds and didn't do all that bad considering it was -18 Celsius and I wasn't dressed for the occasion, attending the club's weekly Wednesday fundraiser meal.

anyways, what would make a good IPSC competition holster. I have sourced a few but unfortunately the LGS is currently having difficulty sourcing one up here in Canada from their suppliers. Any suggestions and this way I can maybe ply their ear with and maybe get a hit on something I can get. I know Safariland has one, but they aren't something they could get through their usual channels.

Photo time I guess.

I was lucky in sourcing a nice tool box with a loading tray and 13 speed loaders. A good thing because getting a competition holster is proving entertaining.

I did find this holster at the local gun store for 15 bucks. Unfortunately, the trigger guard is not covered and thus I can't use it for IPSC competition. For 15 bucks for a barely used leather holster...sold.

Here is the 586 I recently bought.

And my poor first shots. I am happy with this as I was shivering so much I was amazed I did so well. I was at a good distance as well (around 35 yards). Surprised at how the 38 specials feel like 22s and the 357 magnums felt similar to my M&P 9mm recoil wise. I was a bit surprised at that.

Any suggestions on a good IPSC competition holsters that would fit a 586 with 6" barrel would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I know that there are differences in the rules between IPSC and USPSA - the following holsters are legal by USPSA standards - YMMV.

Not sure if the front sight will be a problem with holster fitment, but it appears to be within the width dimension of the rib, so probably OK.

First up would be Blade Tech's Competition set-up...

Blade Tech's customer service is outstanding, so I'd call them first and find out if the front sight is a problem. Also, if they have a presence in Canada, or can ship to Canada.

Taking the front sight out of the equation, you could use a AA Racer holster which secures the gun by the trigger guard and leaves the muzzle completely uncovered...
DAA Racer Holster - Light Weight USPSA / IPSC / IDPA Holster for All Levels

I use the Racer for USPSA. Good luck in your quest.

Adios,

Thanks for the suggestions. I was aware of the Safariland 002 holster. Unfortunately, the local gun store is having difficulty bringing one in. The same for the Blade Tech. Now I haven't seen those DAA Racer Holsters and that is intriguing. I will have to look more into those.
