Looking for some help, since I know next to nothing about holsters. Here's one I picked up recently...it has S & W in big letters stamped inside the belt flap. It doesn' seem to fit my Model 37 and a 4" K frame just about falls out. Any ideas about what gun this is for? And, perhaps the time frame when these were made. Thanks for any guidance you can offer.

If it's a Smith& Wesson sold holster, which I doubt, it will have the model numbers stamped on the back. Tell us those numbers and we can identify the model for which it was made. Smith & Wesson made hoisters will have the S&W logo stamped on the back, not " S&W", so I believe your holster is not a S&W product, but made by another maker. The picture you posted does not match the style of any original S&W factory holster. Your comments would indicate it's for an N Frame size gun or perhaps a large frame semi-auto. Ed.

Thank you opoefc and Tom Kent. Your advice encouraged me to look a bit more carefully......here are a couple more photos showing the back of the holster (the top isn't cut, it just bends back over to create a belt loop). The letters that I thought were S & W are not....after prying the back apart, and upon closer inspection they appear to be the initials S.J.W. - perhaps the person who made it. Certainly not an S&W product as you suspected. Again, thanks for your help.
