I just bought a nickel 27-2 off GB and when it arrived, it was the nastiest, dirtiest gun I've ever seen. It looked like it had never been cleaned. I want to keep the gun, but I've had a hard time getting it clean. BreakFree didn't do much for it. Against some of the advice on this forum, I used Hoppes #9 and it began to loosen some of the carbon. I'm still dealing with discoloration on the flutes of the cylinder. Would anyone have a suggestion as to how I can remove or deal with this discoloration? Any and all help appreciated. Thanks

When I received my new nickle Model 40 last week it was completely full of smudges and handling print.

I used a very VERY small amount of Mother's Mag and Aluminum Polish and gently rubbed it on with my finger tip, one side at a time. I took the polish off with a small clean cotton rag and then buffed it a little. Then did the same steps on the other side.

Long story short, the Piece now has an amazing mirror polished finish.

Here's a couple of photos I took after I polished it with Mothers.

I bought a nickel 27 at a gun show; the previous owner said he had cleaned enough guns in the army for the rest of his life...

I used Wenol polish on the cotton buffing wheel of my dremel and even the front of the cylinder came out like new. Renaissance wax afterwards is always a good idea.

I just got done using flitz and a soft cloth, an old toothbrush, and a little elbow grease to clean the crap off my newly acquired nickel 13 that hadn't seen anything close to a cleaning kit in 12 years or more. Worked to get a lot of the crud and burned on power off with no damage to the nickel.

I wouldn't get within 2 feet of a gun with a dremel and a polishing wheel unless you're REAL good with a dremel. Maybe I'm just inept, but that has bad written all over it.

BTW Los, NICE shine on that revo!

I'd listen to LOS and here's why......Many years ago, I was faced w/needing an excellent polish on NKL guns. For 18 years I used F*i*Z and was content. Then I found info (somewhere) re: Mother's Mag and Alum Polish $5.00; found @ AutoZone, etc. I emailed the chemist @ Mother's & told him what I intended to use it on. Reply= OK for NKL. Never looked back; hands down the BEST. For what I thought was a completely 'done' gun, I get another 50% black carbon residue out w/Mothers.....No Ho**e's nor wire of any kind-ever. Hope this helps.GR

Thanks a Bunch

Thanks to all for the replies. I had some Flitz on hand and it really helped. I will try the Mother's Mag polish to go to the next level. Thanks again for all the info.
