need help coming up w/a pump for a pond

I have a koi pond, around 1200 gallons. There is a ton of really fine deteriorated vegetable matter that clogs my recirc pump every day, have to pull it out and clean it. I'm looking for a pump which has no pre-filter,doesn't have to be very big, will just swallow and spit out anything that's soft and mushy, then I can add clean water and be good. Anyone got an idea?

I have seen Little Giant 110V pumps that we used to use for coolant, they had kind of perferated screen over the impeller, I think you could unscrew the cover and make larger holes. Jeff
 
Thanks Bud Dub, but

My problem is self-inflicted. I failed last fall to grab up all the leaves from the surrounding trees before they sank. Now I'm having to deal with what is left after they began breaking down.

Including fish, put a barrier around it so the don't get sucked in.'Your looking for a small trash pump, grinder will work it's made for sewage. Veg matter will reduce oxygen levels try to dip out as much debris as you can with a net. Been there done that.

Made that error myself. Had to drain pond (put fish in big trash can with some pond water), scrub it out, and refill. Put your pump on some bricks in the bottom of the pond to lift it out of the mung that forms at the lowest point in the pond.

Buy a Danner pond master submersible of the correct size for the turnover you want. They last about forever. Off the intake of the pump use PVC to plumb it to a piece of the mesh tube that can be bought from Aquatic Ecosystems. It slips over the varioius sizes of PVC pipe. This will give yoou a lot of filter area instead of just the typical suction screen on a pump. To clean its easy to slip it off and hose it off and slip it back on the pipe. Its better to install the sleeve vertical. The debri in the pond will possibly bite you down the road with water conditions that are not good for the fish. Perhaps a draw down with a pump used as a vac cleaner and do a 50% refill. Would be most benficial to the koi.
