Does anyone know where I can find, twin, (left & right), leather, shoulder holsters for my 5&1/2 inch barreled S&W 1917's? Can't seem to even find one much less a twin left and right set. Was thinking about trying tanker M3 left and right shoulder holsters and enlonging the hammer strap, but would rather have more under the armpit style than over chest tanker style. Must be leather no nylon. Any help fellows?

19-What? We've never heard of 'em. Maybe if you posted some pictures, we could help you out.

Welcome to the forum!

I'll try to find a clip from, "The Lost World", so you can see the rig used by Lord John Roxton for two nickled Webleys. Those are the only approach I've seen to the matter.

Here it is, but dubbed in German. The actors are actually Australians. Look especially from about 3:14-on, as the villain who is posing as Roxton leads a captive Finn ( played by Lara Cox) through the jungle. At the last, her hands free, Finn grabs a .455 from her dying escort's shoulder holster. The clip ends, but I own the DVD's, so know that she starts shooting, driving the evil Zoth and his lady away.

This rig is okay for a TV show, but you'll be really uncomfortable in that heavy leather getup. And it will cost a lot, although I think some fan site used to offer copies. Don't know if they'd take S&W's, though. Roxton sometimes wore a Colt .45 auto in a nice holster that may be a Bianchi Model 16 or an Aussie copy. It looked much like the holster the brunette woman wears here, but larger. I felt it was much more practical. I think Helwig in Australia may make it.

I plan to purchase the repro leather 1912 calvary swivel holster and belt and then get a left handed 1912 calvary holster to match so that I can carry my Para Ordnance P14 1911 as well as my Auto Ordnance 1911.

So I need two shoulder holsters to get my two S&W 1917's up out of the way of my twin 1912 calvary holster rig for my two 1911's. Yes I would be carrying two revolvers and two semi-auto pistols at the same time. I do that now with carrying two muzzleloading Pietta 1860 revolvers and two .45 Colt Uberti Hombres at the same time and on the same belt. But in the above paragraph case with my S&W 1917's, I want them in left and right shoulder rigs separate and above from my twin 1912 calvary holsters and belt. Partly to put some of the weight on my shoulders and partly to unclutter my garrison belt.

I read somewhere that in the movie "Gangland" that there was a character using a twin S&W 1917 shoulder holster rig for his two 1917's. Very interested in trying to find out about that double shoulder holster rig. Going to find that movie and watch it. But even if the actor used one (possibly one of a kind), are leather, left and right, twin shoulder holsters even available for the S&W 1917? Anyone know?

If twin rigs aren't available, are at least single rigs in both left and right configuration available? That way at least I could get them and just let their straps cross over each other if necessary.

My option of last resort would be the tanker M3 chest shoulder holsters in both left and right rigs and just cross the straps across my chest as well as elongate the hammer retention straps.

Thanks for that info Texas Star. That's a nice looking twin shoulder rig. Still searching for a twin S&W 1917 shoulder rig though.

Well, Bill, you're probably going to have to show the maker this or a similar rig. Just tell them to make it for S&W M-1917's.

I wish all the world's problems were as easily solved. You might ask Lobo Leather from this board to view this and other clips from the show and make it, or El Paso Saddlery.

Where do you plan to wear these four guns at once, anyway? Are you a competitor in cowboy shooting matches?

I'm 58 but big and tall and can easily carry them. I just want to be able to choose to carry either just my two S&W 1917's in a twin shoulder holster rig alone, or carry them along with my twin 1911 calvary waist belt rig. I shoot on my own property and sometimes like to carry everything I shoot at the same time. I sometimes carry four holstered handguns along with a rifle in my hands and a repro leather, British, five pocket boer war cartridge bandoleer diagonally across my chest. I don't yet participate in formal, structured, SASS or any other formal cowboy shooting matches.

Is there a reason my thread, about my hand ejecting, model 1917 S&W revolver shoulder holster search was moved from the "S&W hand ejectors 1896-1961" forum and placed here in the "general/lounge" section where it is now? I thought I had placed it in the correct forum, the one that was about hand ejecting S&W revolvers, and since my S&W 1917's are in that category, why was my thread moved here where it is now buried and likely will see but few responses to aid me in my search for holsters for them? I don't understand.

I bet that this man can make anything you want.
Although he live in Sweden, i know he has made rigs and sent them to USA before.
He is a friend and a Cowboy Action Shooter at my Cowboy club "The Northern Rangers"

Bill-

I bet your thread was moved here because it's really about ordering holsters, not about the guns. But no worries: it will be seen by far more members in The Lounge!

Go to Idaho-leather.com they make a double rig fo govrmnt model 45acp and I think they will make to suit you. Jeff
