I recently purchased an M&P15 Sport, and wanted to install a picatinny forend rail to go on the stock forend. I purchased the carbine-length ProMag Aluminum Rail (PM003D). The rail has a length of 4.625" with mounting points on 3.786" centers. Unfortunately, that doesn't space out well on my M&P 15 Sport. Can someone recommend a good carbine-length rail (preferably aluminum) that has the correct hole spacing so I can mount it on my stock forend? Many thanks!!!

Tagging this because I want to do the same thing soi can mount a vertical grip on my factory hand guard.

The M&P 15-Sport is issued with a non-standard handguard. It lacks a heat shield and is narrower in diameter than a Mil-Spec handguard. I've not attempted to mount a rail to the stock 15-Sport two-piece handguard, so I can't give you many suggestions.

What I can point you to is to a carbine length, two piece, drop in rail system. No replacing the front sight post, delta ring, etc.

If you don't want to spend that much $$$, hop on E-bay. The first rail I ever installed on my 15-Sport was an aluminum 2-piece drop in carbine length quad rail. I think I paid about $25 for it. I liked it enough and bought two more for holiday presents. My buddies still have them mounted.

You can mount a magpul rail to the current Sport handguard but it is polymer. I liked it with a simple pro mag VFG. Solid feel and very light.

don't know how much $ your looking to spend but you could go with a troy free float and cut your sight post for the gas block, and have around $200 in it, watch ebay for the magpul front sight you can pick them up cheap ($30-50)
