Just bought a new 10 round magazine for my High Standard .22 Cal semi auto pistol. If I load 5 rounds in the Mag. it feeds OK, but if I load 10 rounds in it I get jams and some rounds that I have to push the chamber closed with my hand. Everything looks the same with the Mag. but the spring might be more strong. Do you think just using it with say 7 rounds it will loosen up over time? Also, store it with 10 rounds in it, would this help?

I've heard it said that leaving a spring compressed will not weaken it.....it's the cycling that will eventually loosen it. Is the gun old?,,,,perhaps your recoil spring is weak, adding to the problem?

The lips of the magazine may need to be "tuned". Do you have a magazine that feeds properly all the time? If so measure very carefully the opening in the top at several points and compare to the new mag. Very gently bending the lips to the same point should fix your problem.

As mentioned above, the mags have to be adjusted.
I have a Victor and it would not feed when I first bought it. I read about adjusting the magazines in the internet.
Sure enough, after a little tuning, both mags function properly.
Be careful when bending/adjusting them as they are a little fragile.

If it is not a High Standard mag, it might just not work well. There is a guy over on Rimfire Central that knows more about HS then you would ever want and a whole thing on adjusting the mag lips. I think I have a bookmark somewhere but may have lost it, I'll need to search for it.

thats not fair, he uses a "tool" when we were there, we were trained to use pliers.....

Jim has lots of time on his hands, been doing computer stuff since Adam & Eve..........;)
Nice job, covers lots of it too..........

You can saw-cut a piece of steel (on the end of say a 5/16 x 3/4 x 3 ) to slip down over the ears to tweak them.
