I’ve got this old cartridge and can’t seem to find any info online, can anyone give insight to what it is. Its pictures next to a Peters 45-70 and Winchester 45-70.

Thanks in advance

Looks like an 11mm Mauser for the Model 1871 Mauser rifle of the old Imperial German Army. The German colonial forces in Africa used the cartridge and rifle well into the 20th Century and thus the 99 date on the headstamp.

Definitely looks like it packs a punch.

Appreciate the info guys

11.15x60R Mauser. That rebated case head is known as Mauser "A" Base. German and Berdan primed.

A few years ago I would have asked to buy that brass from you! List it in classifieds, there are several members that own Model 71/84 Mausers that could use it.

The foregoing information is correct. It is also often called the .43 Mauser, as used in the M71 and M71/84 Mauser bolt action rifles. Some of those rifles remained in limited military service as late as during WWI.

I have owned several of them, but it was long ago. Back then it was fairly easy to find Canadian C-I-L loaded ammunition and brass to reload. They may have been the last good source of supply. I still have a Portuguese Kropatschek rifle which is essentially a M71/84 rifle but chambered in 8mm caliber.
