Need Help Identifying No Dash Model 66

I recently aquired a no dash Model 66 with a 4 inch barrel, bright polished finish, red ramp front/black and white rear adjustable sights, and black Pachmayr Gripper grips. The Serial Number is 4K50567, and matches on the frame near the crane and on the bottom of the grip. If possible I'd like to know if the finish and grips are original or factory, and if it was a police gun.

I believe it should of shipped with a brushed stainless steel finish and wood grips, but later versions did have rubber grips so I could be wrong.

Not sure if there is any way to say if it was a police gun, you can get a factory letter for $75 that will tell you where it shipped.

Without pictures, I don't think we can rule on the finish.

The Pachmayr stocks are definitely not "original or factory."

No telling. Even a letter from the SWHF might not tell you this.

I need help determining when a model 66 no dash was made. The serial number begins 7K858xx. I won this gun in an auction, but the owner says the gun does not meet my state's requirements to be considered a curio and relic. Can anyone verify this serial number indicates a gun made before May 2, 1975. I would be very grateful for your source of dating the manufacture date, so I can prove the date of the gun. Thank you very much.

You aren't going to be able to. Looks likely in 1976 or so and even it was the other side it would be too close to call with the way they used the numbers.

I show 7K858xx as a 1975 production. So, you got to wait to January 1, 2026, for C&R status.

I don't have any actual ship dates for any 7K8's but all the ship dates I have for 7K7's is 1976.
