A friend gave me a bunch of lead balls and cast bullets. I went thru them and took what I can use and now I'm going to give what I cant to a friend.

Can anybody tell me what these things are? My guess is a black powder ball with a plastic cup to go between powder and ball. It is .441
Thanks

It looks a lot like the old Hornady plasti-patch to me.

It's kind of a replacement for pillow ticking for muzzleloaders.

I never shot any because I thought black powder would melt the plastic...which it usually does in shotshells and the like, but I have some.

However, the new ones are a bit different...take a look:

I think it's a sabot (sp) and ball for a .45cal muzzle loader,usually the in-line type.
I find them alot at the range I use and asked the same question.
I'm not in to the in-line M/Loaders at all but I know they often use a plastic sabot with usually a commercial jacketed bullet in it. I don't see why a round ball wouldn't work nicely either.
.440 diameter is the most common size r/b diameter for a 45cal muzzle loader, then add the patch.
With the sabot, it would just load easily down the bore on the top of the lands and then expands when the powder ignites like a Minie ball base.
