need help with another 38 special

This revolver was given to me with other guns in my step dads cabinet i never paid it much mind until my daughter ask to learn to shoot a couple weeks back and showed interest in a lady smith so i figured she could step up to this 38 special after a 22lr.it has s/n c 119788 its on the butt of handle,the cylinder,bottom of barrel,and on the inside of the left grip.there are no numbers on top of the barrel the left barrel smith and wesson,the right side 38s&w special ctg

Welcome to the forum. You have a M&P made about 1951 I would guess. Someone with more smarts than me will be along to give you more information. Nice revolver.
 
Thank you OTF II for your reply. Not as old a revolver as i thought but still wondering if it will safely shoot todays ammo.
 
Yes, it will handle any standard pressure .38 Special, and if you are so inclined the "+P" loadings as well. For target practice the 148 gr wadcutters are good for a new centerfire handgun shooter.
 
Thank you that is good news cant wait to get to the range and shoot this m&p along with my newest m&p 357sig pistol.
