OK here we go,

Got a new cable box as they took all my HD channels away from basic cable. So I now have a HD Digital Box.

I have a Sony HD TV with one HDMI plug in

Just bought a Home Theater in a box which also has one HDMI plug.

I had been running component cables from my main stereo receiver through the DVD player to the TV.

So if I connect the cable box to the TV with the HDMI cable then their is no way to connect the new Blue Ray/home theater.

The cable box has component cable output and my TV has the inputs so that's the only way I can think of hooking this up??

I looked for HDMI splitters but they cost more than the Home Theater.

So I am thinking HDMI cable from the Blue Ray direct to the TV and the Component cables from the Cable box to the TV.

Am I missing something?? OH so many wires, boxes, instructions:eek::D

Look at the back of your home theater receiver. There should be a couple of HDMI/component inputs. All your gear gets plugged into the HT receiver, and the receiver gets plugged into the TV. That's how it worked on mine.

Well it is not really a big buck HD reciever. It is a Panisonic Blue Ray DVD with suround sound spekers. There is not many Inputs/outputs. Just a a HDMI, yellow video out and a few wireless inputs. Not like a"real" HD receiver.

If Wally Mart has a switch or splitter, that would be the ticket.
I have the HDMI Cables. The ones I saw online where like small boxes maybe even powered or amplified. Can't it just split like a co ax cable splits?

I have two DVRs, one running on HDMI and the other on component. I have, for these times, two small TVs, 32 inch Sony flat screens @1080p. I cannot see a difference in resolution between the HDMI and the component. Some say HDMI has a better color palette but again I can't see it.

Look for multiple HDMI ports on your next TV

Your thread points out a major consideration for anyone buying a new TV. Look for multiple HDMI ports. When I bought my Samsung, (instead of the comparable Sony) 5 years ago it was because the Samsung had 2 HDMI's and the Sony only one. My satellite feed takes one, the DVD player and the Apple TV have to share the other - I just switch back and forth which is only an option because I have easy access. I could use 3 right now and if I were to ever add gaming I would need 4 which now come standard on many TV's.

Thanks for the link to Monoprice.

I have the component cables which I have been using up to now. Guess I will continue to use them for the TV and the HDMI of the Blue Ray DVD. As you say, probably can not see the difference.
