Hi
I went into a Gun Shop today and they had a real pretty 6 shot 617. I have never seen one like this before. It looked like it was a nickle gun. Very shiny and it did not appear to have been polished. The top of the barrel looked like the normal stainless finish but the rest of the gun except for the trigger and the hammer was real shiny. The trigger and the hammer were a very dull aluim. like finish. The trigger was the wide version with lines all over it. The hammer seemed quite wide. Can anyone tell me if this is a normal gun or has someone done something to it. Also it has the normal wooden S&W grips on it. Any help on this would be much appreciated.

Thanks Graydog

Most likely it's just a standard early 617 that the owner gave a polish to. I happen to like the look so all 4 of my stainless revolvers have been polished. It's not at all difficult to do, all you have to do is give it a good rub down with something like mothers mag polish at every cleaning, after a while it'll take on a real shine.

BTW, me early 617 no dash came with the serrated target trigger and hammer as standard equipment. So, nothing special about those features either. What is a bit special is it's a 617.

Agreed. Sounds like a polish job. Very common to find, especially if the gun had a few scratchs. If you don't like the finish you can dull it out with white/light grey scotchgaurd pads.
