Hello

I would like to know the year of manufacture for a S&W Model 41, 7 3/8 " barreled (with muzzle brake) pistol, box, weight, paper, etc.
Serial number - A118398

I also have another question:
The Roll Mark "Model 41" was stamped twice, once very lightly, the 2nd. time is offset from the first mark and over stamped, the standard depth.
It has not been re-blued.

Any ideas, or is this not that unusual.
Thank you.

A" Prefix_____ 1970 with A115001
A145801_____ 1972
A225XXX_____ 1973

I cannot answer the roll mark question.

Thank you Gentlemen for the date of manufacture.

Can anyone give me an educated guess or reasons why the Stamping "Model 41" was double stamped. one very light strike and the 2nd. strike off set and the proper depth.
As I did mention this gun was not re-blued, as new in the original box.

I would be grateful for any comments.

Thank you.

Human error - slipped in the stamping processs - you can see this and crooked stamps in various stages of the process - including light stamps. S&W like other mfg companys will not toss an expensive part if a minor error unless early in the process. SNs etc are at the end or near end of mfg process. Afraid it has gotten worse in the recent years.

I agree with that for sure as they spend a lot of money doing the machining and shaping to get to that stage so a small defect like that does not hurt the performance of the barrel at all. Just a minor cosmetic thing is all.
