Need Help Witha S&W Catalog Designation

Can someone tell me what the "FL" designation means for Product Code 102712 3"?

My gun is a 66-2 3" Serial # AHJ 19XX. which according to the S&W Catalog #4 would put it at 1985. (Yes I understand how loose S&W was with there serial numbers). I'm thinking this was probably an Ashland production gun in 1985.

Well, the beginning of that chapter says FL means Full Underlug Barrel.
It may go to the end of the barrel but it's not 'full' like a K or F-Comp or 686.

Your AHJ 66-2 is from the first Ashland run that shipped in 1985 (likely April), not from one of the later RSR runs.

Yeah, I saw that. I guess I was thinking in terms of a 686 full lug.

So was I. I know the abbreviations, etc. used changed over time and I suspect the one shown in the beginning of that chapter is newer than 1985.

I don't know what it means. I looked through the 1984, 85 & 86 catalogs and price lists and can find no reference to FL, for anything.

Besides the 3" barrel and pinned front sight blade (they were all [M19 or 66] integral by then), it's a standard round butt Model 66; .312" smooth combat trigger, .375" semi-target hammer, red ramp front sight and plain rear sight blade. I don't know what 'FL' could stand for; and it doesn't appear on the labels, just the red ramp.
