Hi All

I was cleaning and lubricating my AR Colt and I placed a sized .223 empty case in the chamber and closed it to see if it would extract and eject. Now, the bolt will not open. It moves out about 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch and is stuck. Any ideas?

Sorry-I meant to put this in the AR-15 section.

In your cleaning did you have the bolt out of the bolt carrier? It sounds like the bolt is unlocking but then something is catching when you try to pull the carrier back. I don't see where an empty case could cause this.(but I could be wrong). If a round was jamming it because of a sizing issue, the bolt wouldn't unlock at all. Try pulling the carrier back with the receiver in different positions. (I'm thinking of something like the cam pin being turned or the firing pin retainer being too loose and working its way out) If you point the right side of the receiver toward the ground and shake it you might shake the retainer back into it's hole. (that sounds bad doesn't it:D) HTH

I got it. I slammed the butt down on a bench while pulling on the charging handle and the shell popped out. I did have the bolt out of the carrier and lubed the hell out of it. Just for fun, I put 2 rounds in the magazine and cycled the action and they both ejected. Thanks for your help.
