I just acquired a used M64 and it appears the previous owner crudely engraved his initials on the back strap. I'm gonna take a moto-tool to it and remove it myself. I would like to know what type of bit is best for this job ?
ie. hi-speed, carbide tip, red stone, green stone ?

Thanks in advance.

My experience with the Moto Tool is that it bounces a lot when trying to smooth metal surfaces; it does not make a satisfactory surface in my hands. If I was doing the job, I would start with a medium or fine cut file depending on the depth of the engraving. The file is much easier to control. Once you have removed the mars, I would use Wet or Dry paper in finer grits to blend the file marks and polish the surface. Just a thought. YMMV.

I did one, I will post a pic shortly. Started out with sanding drum on the dremel. Then some files, then sanding, lots of sanding, progressively finer paper (endeded with about 1000 grit and some white scotch brite pad). Then metal polish of your choice. Be careful to stay away from the edges of the frame, or you'll never get a pair of grips to fit again. The backstrap has a radius curve to it so this shouldn't be a problem. I never did quite get mine 100% perfect, but certainly a 100% improvement over what I started with and good enough for an old police trade in gun. I would also fully disassemble the frame internals, as you will have alot of metal shavings falling inside.
