Need recommendation on J frame holster

Fellow members, I am looking for a recommendation on a holster for a J-Frame for quick summer carry. I'm hoping someone has found a holster they are happy with. I would like it to be leather with a metal snap over but not easily snapped off metal clip to go on a quality gun belt. I'm hoping to be able to snap it over the belt quickly "to go". The Nemesis type holster is O.K. but a bit bulky, warm & limited as to where you can put it. Any advice will be greatly appreciated & narrow my search. As always - Safe Shooting - Overthehills

I'm not sure what you mean by "...with a metal snap over but not easily snapped off metal clip...", so pardon me if you don't want a holster with a metal clip. I have settled on two different J frame holsters depending on where I am carrying.

The holster on the left is a Sideguard Quick Clip with 20 degree forward cant. The one on the right is a Don Hume 715 WC with no cant.

Notice how much lower the Sideguard holds the gun - that's what I want when I am out and about and want maximum concealment. The Hume is what I wear when I am on my property working on and around horses, tractors, etc. It holds the gun very high for easy access but less concealment.

The guns in the pic have different grips so look at the sideplate screw to see the difference in height. If I had to keep just one it would be the Sideguard.

I went with a Garrett Industries IWB Silent Thunder Revolver for my Model 60 3". It is a Kydex lined with leather. Clips on the belt very easily. It is adjustable both in cant and the height of the gun above the belt.

The metal clip

The metal clip I have on my Ka-Bar TDI has lip cut into it that acts as a "latch" as it snaps into place over the belt. To get it off, you can either slide it off the belt (easiest) or spring the clip outward & pull it off (a little more challenging) - very quick to put on though, as well as very secure.....just hoping - as always safe shooting - Overthehills

I'm another fan of the Side Guard Holsters Quick Clip IWB. Mine has a 15 degree cant (you can specify what cant angle you want when you order).

I, too, like the relatively low ride. I like revolver holsters where the cylinder is more-or-less lined up with the belt. I find it makes for very stable carry. However, it's not so low as to impede quickly getting a solid grip on the gun when drawing.

It's easy-on/easy-off, but in the 5-6 years I've had it it's never come off my belt unless I intentionally removed it. It still holds the gun securely but draws easily.

I also think the price is very reasonable, and a very good value considering the quality of the holster, though the wait can be long. Last I heard it was around 12 weeks. I think it's worth the wait, though.

I don't have any experience with it, but another option that might appeal to you is the Alessi Talon. It's been around a long time and has lots of fans and positive reviews.

Another vote for SideGuard. I have one for my Model 36 and will be getting another for my 640-1.

I have the Side Guard tuckable IWB for my J frames but never use it any more. I found that the single clip behind the cylinder let the gun tip forward over the course of the day. I chose the Side Guard specifically for the clip that was NOT on top of the cylinder, and so didn't add any more thickness than necessary to the package, but found that the offset also did not contribute to all-day stability.

When I use an IWB holster now it's the two-clip variety like Crossbreed offers. It offers absolute stability front and rear, and the clips are offset from the cylinder so they add no unnecessary thickness. Plus, the design lets you adjust the front and rear clips separately to control (within limits) both the height of the gun relative to the belt and the cant of the grip. Leather against the body for comfort, and kydex on the other side for a bit less thickness, and stiffness to assure easy re-holstering.
