I shot my first USPSA match and now that i am hooked i need to decide whether to get my 686 smithed for moon clips or just reemed for speedloaders. This is my daily carry gun if that matters in your opinions. Also what can i expect to pay for these jobs?

Moon clips are the way to go, it will cost you $87 dollars and that includes the return shippment. With speed loaders you have to chase your brass and lose some of it, the moon clip cost will pay for it self in one season. I have a few cut for moons and wish that had more done, I am shipping out my 45 Colt to be cut so I can use acp and colt in the same gun. Here is the web site for a guy that does out standing work.

Hey hey hey...welcome to the games! Here's my "been there, done that" for what it's worth. Moonclips in a 686 are better/faster than speedloaders, and you get all your brass back...BUT...you have to use the right kind of brass, or you really fight with them. Some makes have friendlier rim "slot" dimensions than others. Better to get a 625 (45acp) or even a 610 (40 S&W), and use ammo that was designed with a much more generous "extraction" groove, meaning that it will work much better with moon clips. You can make "major" easily with these calibers for the natural scoring advantage . Also the holes that you're aiming for when making like Jerry Miculek and "throwing" those reloads home are bigger and more receptive in 40 or 45 caliber than they are in 38~ Besides, it's another reason to get another gun! I had the advantage of being able to moon clip my own guns ( 686 - 6 and 7 shots), so no expense was really involved, but the 40's and 45's worked out better for me. I currently shoot a 610 with 40's....matching brass and primer size with my Limited competition gun...one of those high-cap bottom feeders. Wheel guns are fun...good luck to you no matter what you decide to go with.
