Well, my dreams of having a nice roomy gun safe are over. We have absolutely no room for anything larger than a few pistol boxes. I want a pistol box that holds at least 2 handguns and can be bolted to the concrete floor. I have seen the Ft. Knox and it looks to be good quality (heavy and a decent steel gauge). I need to keep the kids out and also at the very least stop a screwdriver pry attempt. I won't have the ability to have power, so I tend to like the push button manual type. Does anyone have a similar box or have any recommendations on different brands to check out. Most important to me is that this sucker needs to be strong. You are welcome to PM with links to different options. Thanks

I have a Gun Vault that is about 10 X 18 X 6. Has a key and a battery operated push-button system for entry.

Heavy duty metal, drill it and bolt it to the floor. I used it to keep the grand kids out.

Gun Vault 800-222-1055...or...Gun Safes | Home Gun Safe | GunVault.

Good Luck,

Buy a small office safe. A fireproof american made safe is about $250 and fits nicely in the closet. I have a Sentry, it holds quite a few handguns and takes up little room (and you can still you the closet for clothes). Weighs probably 200 lbs loaded but comes with heavy bolts for attaching to floor.

I bought a small safe from Harbor Freight and bolted it to the concrete floor. It is very secure and has electronic keypads. I keep small items in it. It was very inexpensive. Will easily hold several handguns.Much stronger than a "box" or cabinet. Lowes, Home Depot, Costco all have small safes.
I have a larger tall safe in the back rook closet for rifles and other guns.

There is a handgun vault that mounts between the wall studs, not too hard to install.

I have a Homak Security cabinet lag bolted to my closet wall. It is 9" deep, 18" tall, 23" wide. The lock is similar to one on a vending machine. This can't be pried open with a screw driver but it likely could be breached with a prybar and some muscle. I mounted the box high, to make it slightly more difficult to try to pry open. Replacement keys are big bucks and take several weeks to receive.

I've looked at Lowe's and Staples and at the Sentry web site. There seems to be about 100 different models, beginning with A, S, DS, OS, SW, etc. Has anybody sorted these out to figure which is best for a gun safe? Prices are all over the place too.

I can appreciate the concern about the kids, but how old are they? My Dad taught me about guns when I was about ten years old, even letting me fire his service revolver. I knew what they were for and what they would do. I left them alone. So did my kids, growing up. I just wonder, God forbid, if you ever have a home invasion, are you going to ask them to wait while you unlock your safe?
