needing information about S&W 1700 LS

Just as it says,
Back story is I have an acquaintance who inherited this rifle, here is the information I have.

Model 1700 LS
Made in Japan

If I recall, the S&W rifles made in Japan were made by Howa. Rifles based on that action have been imported by various gun companies, including S&W, Mossberg and Weatherby. Although their are minor variations, the Weatherby Vanguard is pretty much the same rifle.
