Good afternoon folks

I ran across a little revolver today that caught my eye and was hoping to get some direction and value on it. Reading the SCSW, I *think it’s a 32 Regulation Police Transitional. No pics but here is what I saw

Serial #546703
32 caliber
Blued
3 1/4” Barrel
Serial matches on barrel cylinder and the front of the grip frame.
Original SQ Butt Conv Diamond/Silver Medallion Stocks with Patent on bottom
Matte Blue Original Finish

Condition is pretty good I suppose. It has a little holster wear on the sides of barrel, and holster wear on the cylinder in between the flutes. The eye sore is there is a little patch of rust/freckling in between the top of the stocks and thumb release. I think some CLP and nylon brush would clean it up pretty nicely. Mechanics were excellent, bore and chambers were shiny and pristine.

It’s on consignment, no box. It comes with 2 boxes of 50 factory loaded Remingtons and another 50 rounds assorted in a bag. They want $600 out the door for it.

My question is could this be a transition gun from 1946-1947, how rare is it, and would this be a good buy. I have other 32s and lots of ammo so this wouldn’t be a plunge in a new caliber. Thanks in advance

Great find!

It's highly likely that you have a Post War Transitional with that serial #546703. Of course the easiest way to know for certain is if it has a 6th screw; the mainspring tension screw at the bottom of the front of the grip frame.

Your serial # likely shipped from the factory in the last half of 1950.

With all of that ammo, that out-the-door price looks very good. If you're considering it, don't wait, go get it before it's gone.

If you get it, we'd love to see photos.

If I recall correctly it indeed had a 6th screw near the serial on the grip frame :)

Would you have taken it home?

Probably. You're only paying about $450 for just the gun w/o the ammo. And transition models are hard to find, especially in decent condition. Only you know how much original blue is left. But it sounds like it might be as much as 90% or higher. So at that % of finish, I'd grab it and run for $450 ($600 for the whole package).

Ok I scooped up the 32 RP today. I was mistaken on a couple of things, which probably will be confirmed by these photos.

The serial I mentioned is correct and it matches on the frame, barrel, cylinder, yoke, star and stocks. It does indeed have a matte blue finish.

There is a mainspring tension screw below the serial on the grip frame, however the gun appears to be a 4” and not 3 1/4”. There are no patent markings on the barrel, rebated SQ butt stocks or hammer. It does not have a single line made in USA rollmark which after some SCSW research means it could be 1948’ish? (Will ask Roy about ship date the next opportunity I have in the SWCA forums).

She cleaned up nicely and came with a good bit of ammo including a nice full box of Western X 98 grain Lubaloy (which I’ll keep as it because it’s a cool little box of ammo). The bore and chambers are spotless and rifling is excellent. Beautiful stocks and case coloring. No signs of heavy use on the recoil shield and some CLP and choreboy knocked off all of the surface rust only leaving a little eyesore that I can get over given she’s 70+ years old and is in great shape otherwise. It will be a nice shooter to bring out from time to time when I’m shooting my Smith 432 and HR 732.

Oh and they took another $50 off too because I griped about the blemish. What a neat little gun.

Great buy, congrats!

The .32 RPs still had the 4 1/4" barrel on the transitional version. The 4 " barrel came along on the Improved I frame, 2nd version when the ramp front sight and barrel rib were added.

The grips are actually the pre war style hybrid with sharp cornered borders but with post war curved nickel plated over brass medallions.

Yes the 4 line address block replaced the MADE IN USA rollmark on most Transitionals except the very earliest post war guns.

Enjoy,
