The subtitle should be “Bargain Yourself To The Poorhouse.”

I recently picked up a Winchester 1873 Rifle version, 1889 manufactured chambered in 32 WCF or more commonly called 32-20 today. I stopped by a local gun shop yesterday because I remembered seeing a plethora of odd/obscure caliber new Lee dies on my last visit. Well, they had 32-40 but no 32-20 dies.

I saw a sign with “All Used Dies $15.”
So I started digging around and found what appears to be a set of unused, just preowned RCBS 6.5X55 Swede dies. If the box wasn’t dirty they could have been sold for new.

After this I spotted a grey box RCBS die set in .41 Rem Mag. I opened the box and again these dies appear to be unused. No rust, just new carbide dies with an unopened seater insert for different shaped bullets.

Needless to say I don’t need either, but I sure wanted them. $30 cash and they have a new home. 🏡

Nice find! Always check the used reloading dies for sale.

I was at an OGCA Show a few yrs back. A guy had a stack of green RCBS reloading die boxes on the table,,any box for $10.
As I started looking through them there were some great , odd, rare calibers there. So as to not be left holding nothing at all as the other sharks were quickly moving in, I just said I'd take them all.
Not really having a chance to browse thru them. You know how it gets.
Snooze you Loose.

$180 worth in all,,18 sets.
I ended up keeping 3 sets. .280 Ross, 9x57 Mauser,,and a forming set for 25Remington.
The rest went up for sale on website auctions. It was a good payday.
All 4 calibers of the WSLoader and stuff like 8mm Nambu , 9mm Japanese Revolver , 8mm Kropatchek were in there.
A few I sold I wished I had kept!
I always check the used reloading dies. Some great stuff sitting there even if I don't need it myself.

I've bought about half of my dies at gun shows. Lnib or nearly so. Bought a nice Ruger Vaquero at a small show last summer and needed dies brass and etc. Found all in the next room. Set of RCBS carbide dies for $15, a Lyman 240 gr gas check mold for $25, bag if 100 pcs brass for another $15. Even found several boxes of gas checks and a few sticks of lube for my Lyman 450 sizer for another $20. It was an all in one shopping experience which I'll admit doesn't happen often at the shows.

Ditto. I have bought around a dozen die sets in calibers that I have no guns for because they were cheap. I figured I might come into a gun in that caliber someday. A few sets are for wildcat rifle calibers probably very expensive custom made sets when they were first sold.

Ibought both sets of Dillon Carbide dies for 223 and 308 at gun shows...50 bucks each...both had stuck cases(no lube). I buy dies all the time but I usually only buy odd cals and improved cal dies. I make good money on them. I also buy bullet molds of all cals esp hard to find and hollow points I ought an early adh sited S&W 32 WCF with 2 boxes of ammo. guy had a set of Lyman dies(new) and a really good condition 32 cal mold for 15 apiece. Sold the dies at a gun show for 60 bucks after buying a set of Reddings for another 15. You can find good deals at gun shows on the little reloading items. Last show I bought 6000 Gas checks in 5 calibers for 50 bucks. Look at gas check prices these days. I sold 2000 30 cals and 1000 22 cals for 40 dollars each. 32 cal GCs are hard to find so keeping them

I took a deeper look at the two die sets. The .41 set had been used, but the only real sign is the carbide sizing die has had the lock ring set screw has been tightened to the point of slightly marring the due body threads. The marring is cosmetic and doesn’t affect function at all. Otherwise they’re as new.

I loaded a few 210gr cast swc using CFE Pistol powder. One batch @ 9.2grs the other @ 9.7grs. I’m pleased with both loads performance. I didn’t chronograph them, but shooting them from a 4 5/8” Ruger Blackhawk with only my strong side hand the lighter load felt a bit harsher?

The 6.5 Swede dies appear to be unused. I can’t find a blemish or any indication of use.

Now if I can only rein myself in from searching for a 6.5 Swede rifle just so I can use them.

Yes the shortest route to the poor house is
Go left at “I don’t really need this” the turn right at @but for that price”
Then straight ahead to poor house.

I've been down that rabbit hole..too many times...get a bunch of brass or ammo and end up buying a gun...for even more money... I love it.
I got 500 rounds of 7mm AI brass...trying real hard to not find a rifle. Last time it was a 250 Sav Ackley improved rifle...or was it the S&W 32-20 revolver?? Now I have 3
