First off let me say hello to everyone, been browsing this forum for several weeks now but have just now registered... So thank for for all the information and knowledge I've gained so far!

Anywho, I recently ordered my first 15-22 to do some more plinking with my girl and her father. I have a few pistols and a shotgun but we want to be able to practice more economically since we are both in the early stages of putting together an Ar15 build.... My buddy owns a gun store so he spent some time looking for a 15-22 with a threaded barrel and flash suppressor, frankly just because he knows I like the look. He found me the Talo edition which has those add-ons, as well as the flip up sights, for $455.00 or so. It is scheduled to arrive 3-12-11.

I also had him go ahead a get me a few extras ha...:
- Black Dog 50rd Drum mag x2
- Magpul AFG2
- Magpul Moe
- NcStar Mark III Tactical. 3-9x42
- Troy Battle Rail Covers
- Hogue Grips (of course)

Anyways I'll post pictures as soon as I can. Until then, I was hoping someone could give me some info on reducing FTF's. I've watched all the youtube videos on loading, and I'm trying to research a high quality round to use, but I'm kind of confused on the procedure of removing the load assist button on the magazine...

So any input on what to oil, if to oil the magazines(which sounds odd to me), and how to remove the load assist button would be appreciated!

Thanks all!

Edit* Decided against the NcStar, looking around for a red dot now... Currently looking at the Primary Arms M3, but a few others caught my eye as well. Anyone have any thoughts on these?:

Congrats on your new gun. Before you get too worried about FTFs, run the gun a bit. I have 5 25rnd mags for my MOE and have only had 1 FTfeed and that was my fault. If you pay attention to loading the mags, you will be happy. Why are you concerned about the load assist button on the mags? I use mine every time but just enough to load the next round, paying attention to the stagger necessary for the rounds to feed correctly.
I will like to see how that drum mag. works for you. May be my next gizmo to add but we'll see.

Okay I guess I just got a little worried with the info I've been seeing about the FTF and FTE. I'll just leave the load assist in like you said and just make sure everything properly staggers.

I'm just gonna load it like this video suggests: YouTube - S&W M&P 15-22 Magazine Loading without the load assist

I'm still looking around at a good round to buy and keep settling on the CCI stuff. I don't wanna end up with sub par ammunition.

But I'll post pictures of the setup when its all together and let you guys know how the drum acts.

I suggest you experience some FTF or FTE issues before doing anything to address them. There have been various revisions for this model, and the latest seem to have cut down on the issue. I have only 525 round through mine, but zero failure. I use the load assist, but just enough to keep a little pressure on (i.e. not pull it all the way down and start dropping shells in.). I find it a lot quicker and easier than not using the load assist.

Okay will do, I've been watching videos regarding the ejector issues and new springs and every other minor inconvenience I guess I just got overly worried.

Still looking at the red dots, I do think I am leaning towards the Primary Arms M3 over the others I have listed up there... Also went ahead and had my guy pick up a magpul stock as well.

Really can't wait to put some rounds downrange once I get her and give her a breakdown and good cleaning.

M15-22

:) I have had mine since they first came out and have had no problems with it at all. I would recommend CCI Mini-Mags and Walmart Federal 550-round bulk box for reliable ammo.

Good luck with the rifle.....:D

CCI mini mags are best, but pricy. federal 550 bulks are best cost-to-quality ratio. stay far far away from widcat, unless you like peeling lead from the inside of your barrel. winchester dynapoint targets 40 and 60 grain shoot well (black box) dont use the winchester 555. the hollow is too big and you will get load problems. remington golds are also kinda sloppy made, and you get gold cheeto-like fingers.

make sure rounds are loaded correct (each round put in must stop at previous rounds rim) dont let the rim jump. and watch for nosedive. that shouldnt happen if loaded correct.

the guys above are right about the load assist. it isvery usefull, just dont pull it down more than you need.

get a pack of fresh crayons.

and lots of targets.

Alright sounds like a plan I'll be very careful with the loading...

I've been looking at the Federal Champions or Auto Match... But if CCI mini mags are the best that's what I'll go with.

Try some CCI Blazers. Although I've posted these pics elsewhere today, they show a dramatic difference between the CCI and the Fed. bulk. 10 rounds each target off of a rest at fifty feet.

I went shooting the other day with the 15-22 after a couple of months. Here is a picture of the grouping I shot at 25yds with iron sights kneeling. Old guy with bifocals. group is 2.5" with the Winchester 333's.
