Just got it today, brand new, loaded 20 rounds in the mag, slammed the bolt home and fired the first round successfully. It ejected and fed the next round fine but the trigger felt funny when I went to fire the second round. Almost like the safety was partially on. The trigger only pulled back maybe a sixteenth of an inch, no fire, did it again and when I released the trigger I heard a click and the trigger went forward into the fire mode. 3rd pull the weapon fired. All subsequent attempts to fire were the same way, 2 partial trigger pulls to fire a round. I'm taking it back to the gun dealer tomorrow, just wondering if anyone here has encountered this before.

Best bet is to call S&W customer service. Explain the problem, they will send you return shipping and repair it.

Sounds to me like something weird is going on with the disconnect, possibly a bur that's not letting it function properly. If your guy at the gun dealer is familiar with the AR platform he should easily be able to spot the problem and possibly fix it. AR's are very simple and super easy to work on with minimal tools.

Look down into the lower receiver and dry fire it a couple times, see if you see anything amiss. Do an internet search for a photo of what the lower receiver innards look like, and compare it to yours.

"when I released the trigger I heard a click"....

Sounds like you might not have let the trigger go forward far enough to let the trigger reset.

Could have been a loose primer fell into the trigger group and is causing the problem.

Might be a loose pin or spring not seated.

I took it apart this morning and found a burr on the disconnect. A few swipes with a file had it fixed and it perfroms flawlessly now. Thanks for all the replies and advice.
On another note, I just bought this gun yesterday, the wife shot it and loved it so she bought one for herself. We picked hers up today and went to sight hers in and my scope as well. It was windy and 20 degrees with snow on the ground but she was sighted in at 100 yards (iron sights) in 12 rounds.
I'm putting 3 rounds in a 2" circle at 300 yards with a Bushnell 3-9 x 40 scope that I paid less than $100 for over 15 years ago. That's good enough for coyotes and prairie rats. :)

Awesome! Glad to hear you got it fixed. My wife finally shot my AR a few months ago and decided she had to have one too. Ended up building a kit from PSA for her.

Good to hear you got the problem solved and it wasn't anything major. Also nice to hear your wife likes shooting and also has one of her own.

Stay safe.
