Up till now my only 22s have been standard long rifles except for my Single six which has a magnum cylinder. So I’m a bit excited to add this 77 to my stable. Taking the kids out with it this weekend. Should be fun shooting out a bit farther. It will also be my only scoped 22 rifle since I could never bring myself to putting one on my 66 or 39A.

On a side note…I did some research on this gun. Apparently this “paddle stock” all weather is a bit of a grail gun for Rugerphiles. Personally, I much rather have wood but for the price I’m not complaining. The action does feel pretty solid, almost like it’s for a bigger caliber. 10-22 style mags are also a plus…easy to load. Not quite sure about the stock inserts. Apparently you can dress it up by switching them out with fancy inserts like on Ruger revolvers. Although I most likely won’t as I never felt the need on my SP101.

Very nice. I have a normal 77/22 that I like very much.

I had a 10/22 magnum a long time ago, and never could get it to function very well. When the price of them went to the moon I sold it and did not regret it. I wonder how well the rotary mag works in the 77 versus the 10/22 in the magnum cartridge.

Nice score. I do recall them from a while back. Certainly sound kinda rare. Hope it proves accurate. Nice in stainless by the way. Six years back I ordered my R/A 22 magnum Compact and have been thrilled with the accuracy out of that 18 inch barrel. Mine likes the CCI H.P. 22 mag ammo. Just a suggestion. Best of luck with yours.

I like it. I've never had a 22 magnum either. Let us know how it shoots. I've always thought the 22lr was limited to about 50 yards, but would like to try the magnum at 100 yards.

Hopefully it shoots well and isn’t screwed up since the magazines had 22 long rifle rounds in them when I got the gun and I couldn’t figure out why they wouldn't feed and then I realized it wasn’t a 22 at all it was a 22 magnum. The guy I got it from thought it was a regular 22 as he never shot it. Guess the original owner didn't know it was a 22 magnum either and maybe he also never shot it since so I’ll never know. Well, At least someone owns it now who knows what it is. Moral of story. Always read the barrel. :)

First off, congratulations on the new acquisition!! I think you're going to love the .22 magnum. I sure do.

A .22 magnum in a revolver is really nothing more than a souped up .22LR. Not much to write home about in my opinion. In a rifle, though, it's a whole new ballgame. It's a perfect varmint rifle out to about 150 yards. And believe me, it will really do the job on ground squirrels, woodchucks, and even coyotes.

Here's mine...a Winchester 9422M. It's probably one of my very favorite rifles, if not the very favorite.

Nice score on that Winny Mule. Probably tough to find now and big money if one can be found. 22 magnum became my favorite for large varmints at woods ranges using my bolt Ruger. A Vortex Crossfire 2 scope and a sling added icing to the cake.

Mauser9....you've got a great combination. Not sure what kind of scope Sip has on his new Ruger, but I think a scoped .22 magnum is a good combination in anyone's book.

I paid $250 for my Winchester. It was used, but even several years ago it was a great buy!:)

I have rifles in 22LR and 22WMR. For me the only difference is the cost of the ammo. Target shoot with the 22LR and varmint revenge with the 22WMR.

Not saying you can't have fun with both. Just watch Hickok45 popping 2liter bottles or hitting the gong at 200+ yds.

I usually shoot CCI MAXI-Mag 40gr. 1875 fps (muzzle) 1319fps @100yds.I prefer Hornady 30gr V-MAX with 2200fps (muzzle) and 1421fps @100yds and 1002fps @200 yds.

In a rifle. 22WMR is a perfect small game gun. 22LR is not even close for real world applications. Anyone who hunts, has a ranch/farm/property can attest to this. After initial sighting in on paper at ~50 yards, I never shot targets again with mine; it is strictly a hunting gun or for pests on my property.

sipowicz, the Ruger all weather stainless 77/22 magnum is a dandy rifle. My brother has what looks like the same model rifle as yours. He left it with me a couple of years while he was traveling and I tried it out. He'd put a 4x Bushnell scope on it and I found it surprisingly accurate.

Later when he came to fetch it I was bragging on how well it shot and that'd I'd taken quite a few squirrels with it. He offered to sell it to me for a song. I turned it down, not because it wasn't a good rifle, but because I was shooting squirrels so much further out than my .22 LR squirrel guns that it was taking the fun out of hunting.

Sip, I also have one of those Ruger 77/22s with the earlier green inserts paddle stock - the finish is blued, and it's in .22 LR. Very accurate gun and easy to pack. Ruger put in a lot of hand labor on these to make them very fine rifles. I did get rid of the cheesy sling mounts and replaced them with QD studs.

I also have one of the newer Ruger American Rimfire Compact .22 magnum rifles. I've been a fan of the .22WMR for years, and have a number of firearms chambered for it. Although it's more expensive than .22LR, it has much more reach and power. I put a high precision scope on it, and it's a real tack driver. It uses the same rotary magazine you have for your .22 mag rounds.

You won't be disappointed in your 77/22 - it should give you excellent service.

John

I bet you'll enjoy it. I picked up a Savage 93 with the heavy barrel about 15 years ago and it is dead on at 100 yards with Fiocchi 45 grain soft points. I got a brick of it on a deal from Cabela's just before the Obama ammo drought thinking it would be something to shoot to conserve my supply of CCI stuff. Now I'm shooting CCI to conserve the Fiocchi. The magnum really shines in a rifle.

Lead free has been a little bit of a struggle for me in .22lr. I hear .22 Mag and .17 HMR both work pretty well in this respect.

My range had 50 round boxes of Fiocchi for 17.99. Not a bad price. Range ammo us usually higher than stores. Guy next to us had a rest so we checked it. Right on the money at 50 yards.
