Hey All,
I recently got my 66 snub back in my possession (from my dad), and have been carrying that both IWB and OWB.

Now, I have just placed an order (Bud's gun shop) for a brand new, NO LOCK 340 M&P!

I am officially back in the S&W fold...and finally have two of my dream guns to carry.

Anyone with an M&P 340...please chime in on how you like it, and what methods you use for carry, what ammo you favor, etc..
I will eventually post pics of the 66 and 340 together... (house sitting now...no access to my camera)

I have the 340PD. It has the Titanium cylinder as opposed to the steel one on the M&P. It weighs 12 oz.
I carry it constantly in a pocket holster on my left (non-dominant) side. I literally forget it's there. I have it loaded with .357 Magnum Federal 125 GRN JHPs. It is not real fun to shoot with full power Magnums, especially left handed, but I'll bet it hurts a lot worse on the other end. Every time I go to the range I fire at least one cylinder full of my carry load through it left handed. Believe it or not, I can shoot it pretty well like that. Not something I want to do all day, but I realize this is a tool that I may need to save my life someday.

I carry my M&P 340 daily in a Mika pocket holster. The only problem I've had is that on many days I become startled and think I've left it somewhere. Yes, it's that light. I don't know how many times I've gasped and felt for my little M&P and my wife has asked me, "What's wrong?".

I believe you've made a good choice. :)

This is just my opinion. So take it for what it is worth. I think that the new, no-lock M&P 340 and the 340PD are the two best things that S&W has done in the past eleven years.

Of course, if you don't want to spend the money on the 340, you can always get a no-lock 442 or 642. Those are the third and forth best things S&W has done in the past eleven years.

I run 158 hydra shocks in mine. A word of advice, grip it up as high as possible. I have the web of my had at the very top of the back strap, it keep the gun from being able to rotate in my big hamhocks and cracking the knuckle on my middle finger.

I have a 340PD that is an absolute joy to carry, but not a lot of fun to shoot with .357 magnum ammo. I carry 135 grain, Speer .38spl Gold Dots in mine. Depending on what I am wearing, I use either a Galco or a Don Hume pocket holster. It is a great carry gun for when I am riding my bicycle or motorcycle.

Thanks for the good advice...
I learned this technique when shooting my SP101 (which is a heck of a lot heavier) and know exactly what you mean.

I try to introduce as many people as possible to shooting, and I notice that most people grip handguns way too low!

I'll report back after I blast off some full house .357 magnums!

I bought a M&P about 6 months after they came out. I was looking for something just a bit lighter than my 642. I was on the verge of a PD and then S&W announced the M&P 340. It is my second most carried pistol and most carried revolver.

I put a set of Crimson Trace grips on mine, model 405s. I like the fast sight acquisition of the laser, have the dots for backup and the pocket and rubber on the grips do a nice job of recoil mitigation.

I have run .357 through mine but carry with Speer Gold Dot for Short Barrel. 135 grain Plus P.

I pocket carry mine in a Mika Roundcut pocket holster. I started with the DeSantis Nemesis but like the Mika much better. It is a good value and held in high regard for pocket carry. Robert Mika is really nice to do business with and don't be surprised if you get a call from him upon placing an order.

In the holster.

I have about 500 rounds through mine and have had it for 4 years. It is two feet from my hand in my desk drawer as we speak.

I had some Hogue Mongrips on it for awhile. That was some fun. .357 and the Hogues. Get out of town!!

More 340 porn to carry you through.

Hey Dadams,
I have been following your 340 M&P thread on a different gun forum (starts with a "The" and ends with a "Road")

I have a Remora holster on order, am looking into an Alambama Holsters "offside" for IWB, and a Mika for pocket carry.

I will probably load it with Buffalo Bore 158gr/.38+P/LSWCHP, or the .38+P from Speer.
I load the Speer .357 Short barrel in my 66 snub, or the Buff Bore .38+P, and find them manageable for defensive drills.

I know the 13oz 340 will introduce me to a whole new level of recoil, but I love to practice defensive scenarios at the range, and do not mind a little post-range hand aches!

Full report and pics to follow (another week or so...)

I bought the 340M&P specifically so I could shoot .357's. Tried it, don't like it! None I have tried keep the recoil down to the point that I can rapidly get off a second shot or that doesn't really pain my arthritic hands. I carry .38 non +p Federal Nyclad 125's in mine and am satisfied with being able to put 5 rounds in a fist sized group center mass from 7 yards as fast as I can rip them off. The reason I continue to like the gun is the light weight for pocket carry and the front sight. I am currently carrying in a #3 Blackhawk pocket holster but I plan to order a Mika.

I think you are going to like the 340. The recoil isn't that bad with
Plus P. I'm not sure what comes as standard grip wise these days, sounds like you have done your homework and will resolve items to your satisfaction.

I think Robert Mika does an IWB holster also.

Please post your impressions also over on that other Forum.

I didn't know S&W finally made the 340 w/o the IL. Just bought a NL 442 and think it will fit the bill, especially when it cost me barely over $300 after the rebate.

Cheers,

Rhino
