No reason to post this, other than I don't have any gun owning friends (still alive :)) to share this with: just picked up a new 627 v-comp today, boy is it pretty in the eye of this beholder. Unfortunately I have a lot planned for this weekend, so I won't be able to shoot it until next week. It has a very good double-action, and for some reason seeing those 8 holes in the cylinder tickles me. It actually weighs a skinny hair less than my old 8 & 3/8" model 29.

VERY nice!

That's the only firearm I want that I don't already have.

By any chance, could you look under the top strap, on the bottom surface that faces the cylinder, and tell me if it is stamped with an "A"?

"A" allows this particular SKU/model to be sold in CA (other models differ), at least according to S&W customer service, and the CA DOJ website.

Bullet Bob, that is a very nice looking revolver. My very first revolver purchase was the 627-5 PC". It should be out of jail next week :-).

Foytfoyt I know how difficult it is finding one in California. My search took me about 2 years. I did find some redefined CA approved models online at GunBroker. As I was calling around for FFL approval to purchase, I got lucky. My dealer had just received one, not even put out for display!

Well I'll be doggoned, there is an "A" stamped under the topstrap. I don't know if I would have noticed that if the question had not been asked.

Judging by some comments I've seen about the appearance of new guns, I guess I need to get a jeweler's loupe and dial up my OCD level!

Hey, I retired last year and I'm not supposed to be buying any more guns! Obviously I've slipped, but you don't have to push me over the edge.
