New 686 Plus trigger feels like 15#. !!! After a few hundred pulls I hope it lightens up. If not what's next? Will need to bring the double action down to some reasonable level.

Advice, counsel, opinions and .02 welcome.

Best.

If it's not going to be a carry gun, you may be able to swap out the OEM mainspring and rebound spring with lighter ones. Wolff springs are available for the L frame in various pull weights. Shooting/dry firing will also smooth the action to some extent.

You will normally gain more by replacing the trigger rebound slide spring. It is usually furnished with a 16 lb spring, and replacing with a 14 lb spring will make a noticeable difference. Also, have you looked inside to see if there are any mfg. burr's or lack of proper lube? I would not go below a 14 lb return spring or your double action shooting may suffer as you can outrun the trigger if it is too light.

I just bought my 686 and met another old timer at the range. he has a ruger and said he went to a gunsmith who "diamond polished" which I do not understand. however the pull is much better than mine. comments?

Probably talking about "jewelling". Decorative in appearance to some folks, but, adds zero as far as the quality of the action is concerned. I've heard it may help the surface of the part hold on to lubricants better?? (Any machinists out there?) Personally, I have no idea.
