New 9mm shield, embarrased myself

Got the new shield and went to the range. got set up and slid in a magazine racked the slide and could not get a round to load, also could not lock the slide back. Went to the range master and said I could not load a single round. He took the gun and really slammed the slide back. Racked it several times and gave it back to me an said you have to really work it. Went back in and put some muscle into it and fired 50 rounds with out a failure. My point is that sometimes we think we have a defective gun but is is a defective shooter, in this case me. The shield does have very strong springs and takes a good pull to put it in battery, I was used to my Kahr and the shield is much stiffer. Now I would not trade it for anything. It is the best little gun I have owned once I learned how to use it.

Agreed. The springs are very tight out of the box. Mine loosened up some after about 150 through it. I love shooting it.

More Kudos for the Shield. Finished upgrading mine this week. Its exactly what I was hoping for after the mods. Apex duty/carry kit, Talon grips, and Ameriglo I dot pro sights. Great trigger, and I can actually see the sights with my 60 year old eyes. To quote Hickok45, "Life is good"

All small pistols have very stiff recoil springs. They have to because the slide doesn't have enough mass.

I'm glad you like it and figured out how to work it.

They are really tight when new. The same thing happen to my sister. They are a great pistol especially for carry.

Yep. Mine eased up a bit after a couple of hundred rounds too. It's definitely a keeper.

Sometimes it's tough learning a new gun, especially a smaller auto. Most range officers have seen it all, I promise. Most are glad to help too and enjoy working with all types of guns.
