I wanted to add a P-series Sig to my collection, and I chose this P225-A1 Classic as my first P-series (definitely won't be my last). It is a single-stack (8+1) 9mm DA/SA with decocker. I was also considering a M11-A1 or a Legion P229, but my high cap carry needs are already covered by other guns in my stable (Sig P320, Sig SP2022, Glock 19, M&P 40 FS, etc.) and the P225 fits my hand like the gun was custom made for me!

Some will say that the P225 is large for a single-stack, and that is true, but the extra size and heft make it a terrific shooter. I chose the "Classic" version because I love the look of wood grips as opposed to the G10 grips on the Nitron version. The gun came with SigLite Night Sights, and the Sig SRT (short-reset trigger). The DA trigger pull is fairly heavy but smooth and predictable, and the SA trigger pull is sweet; light and crisp. With the SRT, shooting to the reset is a dream!

After field-stripping, inspecting, clean/lube, I took it to the range this morning. The targets shown in the photos are the very first rounds out of the gun. Shot at 7yds. with a combination of Winchester 124gr. FMJ NATO-spec range fodder, Speer Gold Dot 124gr. +P JHP and Hornady Critical Defense 115gr. FTX. Not bad for the very first shooting session I think. I ran app. 150 rounds through the gun without a single malfunction, which is normal for a Sig.

I had only two minor issues. First, the way the slide-lock lever is positioned, my high thumbs-forward grip nudged it a couple of times, causing the slide to not lock back after the last round fired. Correcting this required only a small adjustment in my grip. Second, the grip screws shot loose a little by the end of the session. This is not uncommon with wood grips. To correct this I simply installed Challis low-profile grip-screw o-rings between the screw head and the grip. I have put these on all my other guns with wood grips, and it always solves the problem. I prefer this solution to using lock-tite, which also will work.

I bought the gun online from Grab-A-Gun. Paid $829.00. I already love this gun, it is such a sweet shooter. I now see why P-series Sigs have such a loyal following! I am already planning my next purchase, most likely a P229 Legion.

Very nice. I had an original P225 when I collected Sigs. The fit and finish on it was remarkable. I carried and shot it often until I found the P228. The P229 was heavy and thick even the SAS version. I would suggest looking at the M11, a modern P228 if you want to stay with 9mm, over the P229 which has more caliber options. Just my opinion.

I bought a P6 at the end of when they were being imported. I already had a 229 in 9mm, but the P6 fit my hand so much better. Late on a friend offered me a like new 225 at a price I couldn't pass on. I now have matching single stacks. Sigs are really hard to beat. Accurate, reliable and easy to field strip.

All double stack P series Sigs are the same width. 1.5in. 226, 228, 229, 220, 227 are all 1.5. the 229 has a different slide to handle the 40s&w, which the 228 couldn't do.

Congratulations on the purchase as the P225 is a great pistol.

Congratulations

Congrats on a great pistol. I have been eyeballing and fondling the new P225-A1 at my LGS, but what is holding me back is I have a couple P239's and the original P225 still in excellent condition. I decided that I would enhance my old P225 by having new night sights installed and a new set of Hogue thin aluminum grips and grip screws installed.
For my situation, it didn't appear that I was really gaining anything much, if anything by going with the new P225-A1, and with the almost $1K price tag, I though it would be more prudent to stick with what I have.
The new P225-A1 is still on my radar, but I will have to shop for a used one sometime in 2017.

Nice. The wood grips sure give it a classic look.

The threaded barrel version with taller sights (to clear a suppressor) is the 9mm version that interests me. Otherwise I have a old P225 that makes a 9mm P225A1 redundant.

Rumor has it that SIG is going to eventually offer the P225A1 in .357 SIG and 40 S&W. Since the P225A1 is based on the P239, this makes sense. (The original P225 is a scaled down P220). Waiting to see if SIG pulls this out of a hat at the SHOT Show. A gun website has stated that a SIG rep said that they found some buyer resistance to the P239 because "it doesn't look like a traditional SIG". Combine that with clamoring for the old P225 and that's how the P225A1 came to be. There is no technical reason holding back making it in other calibers. Anyway, I'm holding out for a P225A1 in .357 SIG. Planning on using it as a carry gun.

Here's a pic of my P225. Recoil is tame, but snappy compared to its big brother, the P220 45 ACP. This is due to the light slide. The slide velocity is fairly high on these guns. It's a pity that SIG no longer has magazines for these guns. The only ones available new are substandard. I have yet to read a good review. Have three original SIG mags, but would like more. Need to change out the von Stavenhagen (post and dot) sights for tritium night sights.

Wanted a 225 really badly in the 80s but never came across one........

Finally came across a used on in a LGS in the mid-90s..... whipped out the wallet so fast .... had it about a year ...... compared to my 3913s it was "big"......

......it ended up as trading fodder towards a Sig 245... figured a gun that size should at least be a .45.

The P series are all great guns..................

I bought a Sig P6 and than had it gone over to be the way I wanted it as it only cost me $259 when I bought it. I'm a huge fan of P series Sig's.

My carry gun is a P228 Swiss Police trade in I bought for $500.

Very nice! I love and trust Sigs. I had a 225 "back in the day" which morphed into a 228 when I found one. I wish I'd have kept the 225 and simply added the 228 to the herd. I also have a 220 in 45 ACP. Excellent guns, all of them. Not once (really!) not even one time have they failed to function in the many rounds I've fired in them.

I have two Sig P226. One in 9mm and the other in 40 with DAK trigger. No doubt the two best shooting guns I have ever owned. I have around $800 total cost for both guns combined.
I shot a Sig P238 and thought it is a really well made all around 380. If I was to get back into shooting 380 I would have only one gun, the P238.

I bought a P238 yrs ago for my r/e carry gun . I worked alone in southern arizona, often out in the desert . Anyway it is / has always been very reliable . I reload for it , not tempermental at all . I have a LEO friend that loves to shoot it . He can go through a box of ammo real quick . I have 3 sigs total , the P238 , P320 and a 1911 . The P320 started out a subcompact 9mm . Then I converted it (sig x-change kit ) to a compact in 357 sig . Love , Love that set up . That x-change kit comes right to your front door , no ffl required . I will definitely more another sig . That is a nice score on the beautiful sig P225-A1 .
