New boxed 1006, ok to use it?

Hi, I just purchased a 1006. It came in the original box with all the paperwork, tools, spare magazine, wrapped in factory paper, seems like it never fired a shot so far in its life (which is also the condition how it was advertised).
It's a damn lovely gun, I'm hooked.
I paid 510 Euros for it, I can't believe people spend the same amount for some tupperware Glocks.
Anyway, I plan to take it to the range next week. Any reasons not to? On a hunting licence in Germany, one is allowed to own only 2 handguns, so I can not start a collection unfortunately.

Just clean and lube it then go shooting. Enjoy the gun I have one and its great.

PS: I hope you reload pistol ammo. You will save a lot of money and be able to take full advantage of the capabilities of the 10mm cartridge.

Thanks. For a start, I will try PRVI Partizan Ammo. It is available over here at a reasonable price. No experience with that brand yet. I was told yesterday by my gunsmith it produces a lot of dirt.

Congrats... take it out, shoot it and enjoy it. The Prvi Partizan ammo does tend to be on sooty side, as well as the Magtech I've used in various caliber loadings.

Now this may sound a bit unorthodox, but before going to the range, I paste wax the slides on my stainless pistols, they clean up a lot easier with the dirty stuff, especially on the surfaces that are matte from bead blasting.

I have used the PRVI before as well. It did seem dirtier than other brands but not to the point where I wouldn't buy it again. It was reliable with no case bulges or bad primers.

The Prvi is half the price of any other available 10mm ammo, at around the same amount like .45 ACP or .40 S&W.

Damn, I'd love to add a 4506, a 1066, a 6906, they are all so nice and can be picked up for small money. But as said, two handguns is the legal limit, so I will probably add a M&P9c soon.

abrazzo, Congrats, Brand new condition on a gun that was made in the 90's, good find! The 1006 is an excellent 10mm pistol.

PRVI Partizan Ammo, is said to be mild. Their PPU180 gr JHP is listed at 1080 fps, but actuall chronograph readings show it to average 880 fps. 915 to 845 fps. I wish this news was better...

Many handload for theirs because of the avalibility and cost of quality ammo. The S&W 1006 will handle the properly loaded 200 grain bullets @ 1200 fps.

If you happen to get full powered ammo (not sure what is avalible to you) you may wish to get extra power recoil spring. Wolff Gun Springs has some great quality repalcement spring that can help limit slide velocity and brass being thrown back about 25+ feet. For example I use the Wolff 22 lb recoil spring for mine.

Congrats ona fine pistol. You will notice more "boom & bellow" than with a .45/.40 or 9mm. I like Blutdot and cast bullets in mine. Enjoy!

Just some good old Johnson's furniture paste wax in the yellow can, but no reason why plain Carnauba car wax wouldn't work too.

Great find guys. Do you have a lot of S&W's available for purchase over there or are they hard to find?

My two favorites that I one are the 5906 (Stainless 9mm) and the 4014 (alloy frame, compact single stack .40 S&W)

I just found a LNIB CS45 that I might buy. $625 U.S. with 2 mags, box, papers, etc. I think I might be able get it for $550, if so I will buy it. If not I now where I can pick up a CS40 NIB for $599.

I found the 5906, LNIB for $375 U.S., and the 4014 for $360 LNIB. I was pretty happy with those deals! My first 5906 I bought new from a dealer in Atlanta around 1990 and paid about $480 I think.

In german egun marketplace, I recently watched a 4506-1 and a 5906 go for 370 and 360 Euros. There are plenty of guns on the market, not only S&W. Some weeks ago there was discussion in some of the states to apply a 300 euro firearms tax (per weapon per year). Many shooters are just sick of all the regulations.

Can somebody tell me if it is possible to convert the 1006 to .40 S&W by changing barrel and slide assembly? Does the 4006 have the same frame? For training, it would be nice to shoot .40 or even 9mm. Please enlighten me about me options. I know it would be easier to just buy another gun, but due to local regulations this is not an option.

I seriously doubt it. The 4006 uses a double stack 9mm frame ,not the single stacked 10mm of the 1006. The only *possible* conversion would be to .45 ACP using a 4506 barrel, recoil assembly & slide , but you'd have to buy another gun anyway to get those parts.

abrazzo, By the way that 1006 is very sweet looking Brand New in the Box! Bar-Sto use to make 40S&W conversion barrels for the S&W 10xx model, I purchased one early 90's...however they have ceased to produce them. Sometime back we tried group buy from them but didn't get the numbers. On a side note, some people are shooting the 40's thru the 10mm barrels, but this can be problematic, as the extractor is holding the cartridge.

Mike McNett of Double Tap Ammo actually had Bar-Sto make the 9x25Dillon conversion for several guns that also included the S&W1006, I purchased one from Mike some time back.

Both of my barrels were Match Grade and needed to be fit to the slide and frame. After the 9x25 was fitted I had to have the chamber cut for the final headspacing. Both have been a great addition to this platform.

One of the members (Bad_Man_One) here on the forum, actually has some conversion barrels of various calibers (about 100) being done as a work in progress, he has had some setbacks for CNC machine time, but he does intend to finish.

Basicly, like a Glock, with just a conversion barrel swap (maybe a recoil spring upgrade), the 10xx series can utilize 40S&W, 357Sig & 9x25Dillon while using the same magazines.
