New but not

I showed up at Ft. Polk on June 19,1968 for Basic Combat Training, then on to flight school. It was not exactly a pleasant place to be back then. On the plus side, over 20 years later I met this cute dispatcher (93P) at Flight Ops who became my wife. I'm sure the Post has changed somewhat over the years, hopefully for the better.

Welcome from Metro Atlanta.

My Blackhawk pilot son has been to JRTC at Fort Polk many times. He's never liked the experience. That part of the country grows mosquitoes the size of hubcaps. They've been known to attack the local allegators.
I`m so sorry you had to endure a place with mosquitoes so large they show up on radar. How long did it take to get the Spanish Moss off your cars and belongings? It took me a semester after leaving Baton Rouge. P.S. Thank you for your service.

Thanks for the support, and it’s not bad being stationed here it’s worse when your training here in the box.

I did not know JRTC moved to Ft Puke, I mean Ft. Polk. Back in the late 1980's it was at Ft. Chaffee, AR. Then it was commanded by Col. Jack Keane. I used to fly Jack (later 4 star General Keane) back and forth from Little Rock AFB to Ft Smith/Chaffee all the time. JRTC was later moved to Ft. Hood. The last time I saw Gen. Keane he was at Norfolk, VA commanding Atlantic Command. I've got some funny stories about my buddy Jack.

My best wishes to your son the UH-60 pilot.
