New Dan Wesson Revolvers!

CZ had announced the re-issue of the DW revolvers before and it didn't happen. Personally, I think that the lawyers got in their 2 cents and pointed out that an adjustable B/C gap was a liability issue. As much as I hate to say it, the lawyers may step on this again, so I'll believe it when I actually see a new Dan Wesson revolver in a showcase.

That it made it into the catalog inspires confidence in me. That I know of, it didn't previously.

As far as the B/C gap goes, I've NEVER, EVER heard that even MENTIONED as a "safety" issue. If it were, then S&W would have stopped making revolvers altogether based on the factory defective forcing cone on my 4" 29-2.

Owned a DW Pistol Pak many years ago. Nice concept, but a silly reality. The thing that always befuddled me most was the cyl. latch ahead of the cyl. Seemed foolish and dang slow with reloaders. Be nice if they were different now... are they?

Thankfully they appear to be exactly the same.

I'll take a DW fixed sight .357, stainless, with 2",4" and 6" barrels!

I have a 4" fixed sight DW but it's a beater.

I am always happy to see major gunmakers bring out (or bring back) a big line of handguns......would the DW revolvers be made by CZ in the Czech Republic?

The reason the latch was put on the crane was all about accuracy. From an engineering standpoint what is the most critical feature of a revolver in terms of accuracy? Answer, the alignment of the end of the throat with the barrel. Placing the lock on the crane puts the lock point for the cylinder assembly at the nearest practical location to this critical feature.

It's also why S&W has experimented with a ball detent on the crane, it can improve accuracy. Unfortunately, with a ball detent a bent crane, cylinder rod or simple fouling debris can cause the ball detent to not fully engage. I've also seen some reports that one reason the triple lock was dropped was because it tended to put too much stress on the cylinder stop if all 3 locking points weren't in perfect alignment, which considering the accuracy of machining methods at that time is a pretty likely possibility.

Quite simply, the Dan Wesson was created with one single purpose. That is to create the most accurate revolver that could be made. Considering that some have reported the DW's could achieve 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards, I would say that it met those goals.

Back in the late '80s, my then girlfriend was getting her masters in industrial engineering. She needed to do a project for her statistics class, and I suggested comparing the accuracy of my 15VH using the different length barrels. Off of my pistol perch, that gun was INSANELY accurate. Most attribute this to the tension on both ends of the barrel, as well as the lockup.

I sold mine to a co-worker to fund something else, probably my Glock 22. I like the Glock, but wish I'd never sold the DW.

Hopefully, they'll start making the large frame guns as well. I'd like one in .45acp or .45 Colt. Of course if I ever go deer hunting again, a .44 Magnum with a shroud mounted scope would be great.

Great news!! I hope they make a nice 3" stainless. Regards 18DAI.

The gun appeared to be stainless, although it was kind of hard to tell. I'm not a fan of stainless, but I bought a 3" Model 65 when I couldn't get a 3" Model 13. I can certainly put up with stainless in order to get a new revolver made the way I want.

Did they ever make a 3" barrel? Apparently, they never stopped making the barrels and shrouds, so you could always buy what they make now.

The "revolver" in the catalog looks like a drawing with a photo of Houge monogrips pasted onto it.
I agree with Scooter123, I'll believe it when I see one in the display case at my local fun shop.

I have a .357 with a 2" and a 6" barrel.
