I know I'm going to hear from the faithful, but I just purchased a ne H&K VP9 and I'm very impressed and pleased. Best striker-fired pistol to date.

The VP9 is an excellent gun but I chose a P30 over it reason being I don't like the "wings" and absolutely hate the rear slide plate loaded indicator. I don't like distractions on the rear of guns. I know the "wings" can be removed but you're still left with plastic inserts and hopefully someone will come up with a blank rear slide plate. I couldn't find any reason to choose it over my M&P 4.25" and the M&P is much less complicated in the "guts" department and holds 17 rounds flush. Build quality the H&K does have an edge over the M&P but H&K guns are all quality. The grips are also better on the P30. I'll probably get a VP9 in the future but not until the above matters have been addressed and more aftermarket parts become available. Now go and get a 30 round mag and shoot the hell out of it :)

HK P30, VP9 30 round mag

I always thought the VP and the P had the same frame thus the same grips[emoji53] As far as I understood the VP was a striker P30.

Wings I can take or leave. They stick out just barely. Just enough to catch with your fingers.

I guess I never payed much attention to the loaded chamber indicator. Half the guns out there have something in the rear (hammers).

As much as I like HK, and I own a few of them. If I had to choose between the VP and the P30 I think I'd go with the PPQ! Same ergos and a better trigger.

Oh and .....congrats on a nice gun

The VP9 and the P30 frame are very similar but not the same. The VP9 grip texture is closer to a PPQ and I don't like using grip tape. The wings are a subjective thing either you like them or you don't. Don't mind hammers at the rear I'm used to them I just don't see the need for a red loaded chamber indicator especially on a service weapon. Waiting for the Mk2 :)

I guess we're talking about 2 different things. I thought you ment the actual grip style/angle not the texture.

All guns that I can think off have a loaded chamber indicator. I'm not sure if it's a law but a lot seem to have it. Better than the XD which sticks up out of the slide between the sights [emoji85]

Very cool. I have a FS M&P 9, and recently bought a VP9 in March also.

I think the VP9 is an awesome pistol and that you will be very happy with it.

PS Welcome to the forum.

Having a loaded chamber indicator is the law in some localities. I believe some specify an "active" one (such as the piece that sticks up out of the slide). Many guns have "passive" ones (such as the witness hole in the M&Ps). CA-compliant versions of the M&P have the active one that sticks up out of the slide, similar to XDs and Rugers. Some guns don't have loaded chamber indicators at all.

I think more and more gun manufacturers are implementing either passive or active loaded chamber indicators as "standard equipment", to reduce the number of model numbers to cover all markets. I personally appreciate Smith & Wesson giving us that choice, for those who may not want an active indicator. Some manufacturers offer no choice, and put the active indicators on all gun models.

The VP9 has two loaded chamber indicators, one on the extractor and one on rear of the slide. The frames are completely different it's just that I prefer the grip of the P30 and I take an XL glove size. These differences are subjective don't get me wrong the VP9 is a great gun :)

If you're talking about the "red dot" on the back of the striker, that simply indicates the striker is cocked. The chamber could still be empty.

I know but I don't like it or believe it's necessary.

CA law even specifies the requirements for the indicator. The CA M&P Shield is an example of that.

However, not all handguns here have any LCI. My SP2022 can only be verified by a press check.

Guys don't get me wrong.ive been a long-time lover of Smith&wesson. Just got caught up in something new! No harm intended to anyone.im a lover and collector of all quality makes of firearms,AR-15s are my weakness,So if I praise a new product,Im not trying to cut down any maker or person.
