New headgear for Marines?

That is just so sad. The Army, with rare exceptions (Boonie Hat, Ranger Patrol cap, pile cap), struggled with good looking, and efficient headgear. During my time in service, we were stuck with the godawful looking "baseball caps". Even the baseball caps, in my opinion, looked better than the berets that the non-SF people now have to wear. The Marines have a hard enough time, and now they're going to be stuck with this new headgear - that's just not right.

Regards,

Dave

Even though they do look funny, I would not suggest laughing at a Marine! All of the services have been cheapened by the trend to going Unisex. The new Navy working uniforms look like a Camo clown suit and I would never wear something like that out in public. Plus, if you fall overboard from a ship they will never find you in the ocean. They were also highly flammable when first introduced...now that's real smart. Wouldn't surprise me if they aren't all made in China......

The hats for the Marines are a joke. WHY with all the other issues today...Spend $8 Million on new hats??? And You know $8 Mil will turn into $12 Million or MORE by the time it's all said and done.

Politicians need to leave the Military alone. Especially the Corps.

Read last week the Army is going to yet ANOTHER new CAMO pattern!! Once again...Huge WASTE of money.

I would suggest that any of the more senior service members, Marines or not, who intend to get more "time in grade", be very careful of their criticism of any thing this present commander-in chief might decide he wants.
. Seems there is a goodly number of service members getting fired in the last few years....Justified or not, I can only speculate.

Wonder what you Marines think of this. I'm glad I retired from the Army before the beret came to be the standard headgear, and I'm glad its now gone. I don't think this new hat for the Marines is a good idea.

Though ive never been in the Military, I never liked their idea of everyone wearing berets which to me--takes away something from those ho earned them, and the porter cap looks disgusting. Ill end with--those making these "fashion" decisions--should try them out first--and see how much they get laughed at.

I do not approve. The current frame cover would work perfectly fine for women Marines. As would pants, oxfords and a stock-collar tunic for that matter.

The Dan Daley cover was ditched for a reason; why second-guess that?

IMHO, if they want one "unisex" uniform for all Marines, just dump the current female version. Problem solved, zero redesign needed - just some tailoring.

Don't mess with dress-uniform perfection.

What next? A return to the War Between the States era Kepi and Forage Cap? Maybe a Pith Helmet? Or go all "Gangsta" with those huge, flat brimmed foam 'trucker' hats that are all the rage?

Seriously, I know men who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan. They have to buy their own socks, boots, knives and sometimes even body armor just to have good stuff, yet our idiot civilian leaders want to blow over $8,000,000 on new dress uniform caps! Spend the money on things the Marines need to stay alive and do their jobs.

They're mostly wearing coveralls and work stuff when out floating around the ocean. They get dressed nice and clean in their good navy uniforms in port or on camera.

I don’t see why they don’t leave these decisions to the USMC Commandant for their choice to make.
