This is an old thread, but a fun one. I would have to go with what a member requested earlier. I have a 44 special model 696. For those who aren't aware, it is an 'L' frame, 3", five round, ss, with round butt and factory Uncle Mike's combat grips. It fits the hand like no other, is compact enough to slip in your pants (not for extended carry), and the grip is arguably the best rubber grip ever. I wish for the same identical gun with a 5" barrel. IMO it would be the perfect 'modern' 44 special. With the current popularity of the 44 special, regardless of what Mike Venturino says, I am surprised Smith has not renewed its production. I realize 'light' is in with CCW permit holders, but as a shooter, it would be superior.

Since my primary SD pistol is an XD-45, the 45ACP is for me!!! I think ballistically, they are "close enough" to compare. But with load availability in the equation, 45APC stomps the 44 SPL.
And since my hours of carry still far outweigh my hours of shooting, a lighter pistol is better. No matter how much you enjoy your all steel N Frame, I need to stick with the K Frame weight class...

I think a 44 special j frame would be awesome but it would need the 3" bbl

could use a light weight (for wives) 9mm revolver so we can inter change the same ammo.
